RETURN OF THE TURN IS BACK Marcus Caston and Tim Jones are back with another season of Return of the Turn! But first, it’s the 5+1 Year Anniversary (yes, we missed the fifth), and we’re celebrating by looking back at some of the best moments. Return of the Turn started as an ode to real skiing - The kind of skiing that so rarely gets shown in the movies these days. Good, old-fashioned story telling centered around a passion for skiing in its simpelest, and arguably most fun, form. “The idea for Return of the Turn was just to celebrate all the skiing that I do 98% of the time,” says Marcus Caston, self-proclaimed runner up for Best Skier in the World. “For years I would watch ski movies and there was very little skiing that spoke to me. I thought, and still think, that skiing has devolved over the past 20 years. Watching guys huck themselves and go straight is easier than making good turns, and is way easier to make look good on film. Return of the Turn was just an idea to flip the script and do something different and that excited me.” To make this concept a reality, Marcus teamed up with fellow Salt Lake local and legendary film maker, Tim Jones. “Marcus and I had worked on a couple of projects together and realized that we meshed well from a filmer/athlete perspective,” says Jones. “We shared a similar vision for the type of media that we thought was cool and relevant in skiing, so in 2017 we decided to team up. Marcus initially had the idea for “Return of the Turn.” The concept was a video series focusing on the turn in all it’s many facets: groomers, bumps, powder, etc. So that’s what we rolled with, and over the years it has morphed into more of an experience and story-driven series, but the focus will always be on the essence of skiing and doing things that are relatable to most skiers.” Marcus and Tim are at it again, and Season Six of Return of the Turn drops on Tuesday, November 21st. Watch the trailer to the right, then dig in to some of the best moments from six years of returning the turn.

Season 6 Trailer

EPISODE 1: Bumps In the first episode of Return of the Turn ever, the boys traveled to North Lake Tahoe in hopes of skiing some epic spring bumps and ended up being joined by some of the best bump skiers on the planet. In Director Tim Jones’ words, “My favorite episode has to be episode 1: BUMPS. It was actually our second shoot (we filmed Episode 2: Groomers first), and we went out to Tahoe at the end of May 2017 with no clear idea other than to ski spring bumps at Palisades. The universe aligned for us that trip — Jonny Moseley was there and was game to not only film skiing with us, but perform some comedy in a now-classic skit. The US mogul team was also there, and they were down to ski bumps with us on KT-22. We also got to ski a bunch with Tom Day on that trip, who is one of my personal idols. It was just all-around one of the best trips ever.”

EPISODE 6: FIREBIRD After a succesful first season, Season Two of Return of the Turn comes in hot with Episode 6: FIREBIRD, in which Marcus once again reminds us that FAST is FUN. Denim vests, classic cars and rock and roll. It doesn’t get much more Firebird than this.

Trailers Everyone knows that the unofficially official start of winter is when the new Return of the Turn trailer drops. Well, maybe not everyone. But you get it. The boys have had plenty of fun with these over the years. Let’s look back at a couple of the best.

Fun Fact About Tim Jones: “I have a passion for perfecting my “work boots” — Ski boots that I can wear all day on film shoots that won’t freeze my toes and will stay comfortable. My current work boots of choice is the Tecnica Cochise, one size larger than my normal alpine boots with custom footbeds.”

Fun Fact About Marcus Caston: “My real dream is to chase tornados.”

EPISODE 7: BEER LEAGUE In the second episode of Season Two and Marcus’s personal favorite, the boys missed out on an all-time pow day at Snowbird to travel to the heartland, but what they found was more rewarding than either of them would have imagined. From Marcus: “The Beer League episode in Minnesota is my favorite so far. We left for our trip on the same day Salt Lake was getting a big snowstorm, and I remember Tim and I we were totally content with it. It was just such a fun trip and I think the experience really resonated with both of us.”

CAme for the skiing, stayed for the panckaes:

EPISODE 13: BROS TRIP Marcus and Tim wrapped up Season Five with a good old fashioned boys trip, where they adventured right out their backdoor, deep into the Wasatch. In typical Return of the Turn fashion, very little went according to plan. A few snow-filled boots later, they ended up bagging some classics and had a hell of a lot of fun in the process.
