THE NORMAN BIRD SANCTUARY HOPPED THE POND TO GAIN INSPIRATION FOR THEIR ANNUAL BIRD BALL FUNDRAISER, CREATING A SMASHING EVENT FIT FOR THE QUEEN HERSELF.

highlights

Merry Old England found quite a home at the Norman Bird Sanctuary in Middletown, R.I., as British icons from Sid Vicious to Kate Middleton appeared in graphic form at the eighth annual Bird Ball. Conceptualized by Misi Narcizo of Lakuna Design and developed together with Co-Chair Sarah Rodgers of Sarah Rodgers Florals, the theme for the sassy soiree flourished with a satiric take on all things Brit. Guests entered through a hedgerow of boxwood and privet created by Rodgers, and grabbed a proper pint at the door. When London called, Jess Kriss of Blackstone Caterers answered with a unique menu for the event. “The vibe of the Bird Ball is always fun and festive and we wanted a playful menu to match,” exclaimed Kriss, “so we decided on classic comfort favorites served in pubs throughout the UK.” Some of Blackstone’s kitschy cuisine included a Fish and Chips Shack along with a Pub Grub station—every Brit’s cup of tea. The Piccadilly Punch and Beefeater Gin signature cocktails piqued the taste buds of the bird enthusiasts as they mingled in the authentic “British Pub” set up in the studio of the Bird Sanctuary. Costumes are the norm at this event and throughout the evening the birds were spotted donning fascinators and hats, one more elaborate than the next, while the blokes channeled English celebrities from The Beatles to Sherlock Holmes. Union Jacks waved as bids were made at the silent auction—aptly titled “It’s For The Birds”—that helped to raise funds in support of the Norman Bird Sanctuary’s mission of preservation of this 234-acre bird lovers paradise.

staples as Guinness-braised short ribs and two flavorful Indian dishes—chicken tikka kabob and vegetable curry. 5 | No proper British bar would be complete without Beefeater Gin and Boyd and Blair Vodka. opposite: 1 and 7 | Guests took the theme to heart, and donned their most festive British frocks and finery. 2 | “Mind The Birds,” a cheeky reference to the iconic “Mind The Gap” warning on The Tube (London’s underground rail system), was repeated throughout the

décor of the event. 3 | Sarah Rodgers created sweet centerpieces with English-garden flair. 4 | Blackstone’s twist on an English pub favorite—mini meat pies topped with mashed potatoes. 5 | The Sanctuary’s studio was transformed into an authentic British pub, with British punk rocker Sid Vicious greeting guests at the door. Cheers! 6 | Blackstone’s chefs served up traditional fish and chips made with local Georges Banks cod and Aquidneck Island potatoes. 8 | From Mini Coopers to Aston Martins, Valet Connection handled the parking with speed and ease.

THE RHODE ISLAND SCHOOL OF DESIGN MUSEUM’S FUNDRAISING GALA AND EXHIBIT COCKTAIL CULTURE EXPLORED THE RITUAL OF THE AMERICAN COCKTAIL HOUR THROUGH SEVEN DECADES OF ICONIC DESIGN.

HIGHLIGHTS

Renowned fashion designer and Rhode Island School of Design alumna, Nicole Miller, was the guest of honor at the RISD Museum and Associates annual gala and fundraiser last spring in Providence, Rhode Island. The accompanying museum exhibit Cocktail Culture: Ritual and Invention in American Fashion 1920-1980 explored the popularity of the American cocktail hour through seven decades of fabulous fashion and iconic design. Guests enjoyed an array of hors d’oeuvres along with updated versions of classic cocktails, reinterpreted by the Blackstone Caterers’ team of master mixologists, while mingling among apparel, accessories, photos and art objects representing each iconic era in design. Miller was recognized for her more modern approach to cocktail fashion with her designs artfully juxtaposed against fashions, photos and objects of the past. From the deco jewelry designs of the 20s and 30s to the mid-century barware of the 50s to the bold sequined fashion of the 70’s disco era—the exhibit showcased some of the most innovative designs and designers that defined the times and how the cocktail hour shaped American culture.

Floral and Event Designer John Orton of John Orton Flowers transformed Rhodes on the Pawtuxet into an interactive “Imaginarium” for the Women’s Fund of Rhode Island 10th Anniversary Gala. | Inspiring the imagination is a hallmark of John Orton’s style and the 10th Anniversary Gala for The Women’s Fund of Rhode Island is a perfect example of his flair for creating parties that are truly unique and engaging. “Imagine” was the theme of the evening and Orton set out to transform Rhodes on the Pawtuxet into what he called an “Imaginarium”—a place where art becomes entertainment and you can’t help but be drawn in by the magic and possibility. “Fabulous parties are all about memorable surprises,” shared Orton, “so we set out to create an event with fantastic elements and high visual impact. Lighting was key to the vision and Tony Ormonde of Ormonde Productions pulled out all the stops!” A glowing tornado made out of spandex towered over guests in the lobby and intriguing, color-changing orbs decorated the bar. Partygoers entered the dining area through two brilliantly lit, fog-filled magical tunnels of gossamer fabric and patterned light projections added color and impact to the room. Visually stunning abstract performance artists enthralled and entertained, embodying the event’s theme and encouraging guests to imagine.

Francesca Campo of Campo & Company Events planned a patriotic, Americana-themed tribute to Old Glory for the Redwood Library’s annual fundraiser gala in Newport.

HIGHLIGHTS

After an extensive restoration, expansion and reopening back in 2006, The Redwood Library instituted an annual fundraising gala to support and maintain almost three centuries of rare books, art and antiquities that it houses. Event Planner Francesca Campo of Campo & Company Events has been involved in the planning and design of each gala since the fundraising efforts began and this year’s event was a tribute to American patriotism and the Redwoods’ acquisition of the historic JFK Presidential Flag, made possible by the generosity of the Hugh D. Auchincloss family. The “Grand Old Flag” gala featured an Americana theme, modern American fare and an entertaining evening of great American songs. Up the library’s flag-lined walkway and past the original colonial cannons, the dinner tent, dressed in patriotic splendor, featured red buntings, dramatic striped gobo lighting and festive red, white and blue tables. “Guests dined on updated versions of old-fashioned favorites such as buttermilk fried chicken, summer corn pudding and strawberry shortcake,” shared Kathleen Geasey of Russell Morin Fine Catering, “very Americana and fun and rather unexpected for a gala menu.” Everyone reveled in their patriotic pride as they enjoyed a cabaret-style performance of classic American songs and a moving tribute to the military veterans in attendance—a fitting salute to the Grand Old Flag and a grand old institution.

done right

Nothing screams “fun” like the color red! Krissy wanted her favorite color to be a stand out at her and Joe’s Newport wedding, so she was selective about how she used it and chose just the things they loved as the focal points. Playful red accents (striped straws, polka-dot cupcakes, cute red shoes and big red balloons) popped when paired with handsome neutrals of champagne and silvery grey and let this couple’s fun-loving, silly side shine through.

glam factor

A glimmer of silver added formal glamour to Kimya and Jason’s June wedding at Kirkbrae Country Club in Lincoln, Rhode Island. While navy, silver and black is not your typical summertime palette, this bi-coastal couple actually had two weddings. The first in California had a soft palette with a vintage feel so Kimya wanted her east coast affair to be completely different in coloration and style. Classic black and white décor was accented with silver, rhinestone and feather details along with cool blue uplighting for a more modern feel. The bridesmaids wore Kimya’s favorite color, navy blue with sensational silver shoes that added the bride’s mandatory “glam factor.”

HIGHLIGHTS

With vintage style all the rage, it is no surprise that some bygone era traditions are coming back into vogue as well and the allure of a private, spontaneous elopement is one of them. The modern-day idea of slipping away and getting married privately is a dreamy one, extraordinarily intimate and infinitely romantic. That’s exactly what Charlotte thought when she and Jack jetted off to Paris for what everyone thought was a week-long getaway. The couple had met there several years ago while strolling the flea markets on the Rue des Rosiers and vowed to return someday. A secret elopement and romantic little honeymoon seemed like the perfect plan. Upon their return, they wanted to surprise their family and friends with a champagne celebration, Parisian style of course, so they called upon Event Designer Candice Coppola of Jubilee Events to design the perfect day. Everyone gathered together for a toast to happily ever after, complete with a bit of French bubbly and an array of patisseries by Confectionery Designs, apropos of such a momentous occasion. Everything from macarons, cookies and meringues light as air to framboise parfaits and wedding cakes extraordinaire! Warm wishes were shared as glasses were raised—to Paris, to love and this bon fête!

{7} {8}

{9}

Though they have seen much of the world together, Hadley and Ryan could think of no better place than Little Compton, Rhode Island for their wedding day. “Little Compton is just a beautiful, easy going, and authentic little town,” shared Hadley, “we were also married on my parent’s property, which just made the whole day even more personal.” Once they chose the locale, the theme just came naturally. “Ryan and I are pretty laid-back people and wanted the event to really reflect us and the local area,” Hadley explained, “so we designed a farm-chic theme that merged our favorite parts of Little Compton with some of our quirkiness as a couple.” To enhance the farm feeling, hay bales were used as décor, along with mason jars, milk carafes, and of course a playful graphic cow logo. Refreshing signature cocktails and napkins with cute sayings about the bride and groom were passed during the cocktail hour in the open field. Inside the tent, the bridal party was seated at a long farm table with sleek white slipper chairs for a little added refinement. The simple organdy linens provided a clean canvas for the pops of colorful floral centerpieces created by Sayles Livingston Design. “And then came the band,” recalls Wendy Joblon, owner of Wendy Joblon Events, “from the first song to the last, every single person was on the dance floor.” As guests left the party they picked up a homemade jar of pickles or jam made by the bride’s mom along with biscuits and fresh peaches, as a favor from the couple’s “Little Compton Farm Stand” set up on the hay bales outside. The little local gifts allowed guests to take home a piece of the place so special to the bride and groom. more}

dreams

Like magic, the rain stopped and the cLouds parted for martha and mike’s dreamy outdoor wedding at castLe hiLL.

highlights

“It’s not going to rain on Martha’s wedding day,” Mike repeated, as looks of angst about the drizzling Newport sky began to overcome the crowd of guests. Mike decided to wait patiently for ten minutes on expert advice from both Photo grapher Kristin Spencer and Florist Joyce Holland before making the call to move the ceremony indoors. As if by magic, with only 30 seconds to spare, the sun ap peared and Martha walked down the aisle, albeit dewy, toward the stunning chuppah on the patio at Castle Hill where Mike eagerly awaited. When planning her wed ding, Martha knew she wanted to include tangerine as the dominant hue in her refined summer color palette. “She is a fashionforward thinker,” shared Joyce Holland owner of Stoneblossom Floral & Event Design, “as Pantone named Tangerine Tango ‘Color of the Year’ following the event.” Martha explained, “We were able to pull off the array of vibrant oranges by introducing the sophistication of khaki and platinum to balance it. My expert vendors knew exactly how to incorporate the boldness of the tangerine without it being too shocking or whimsical.” Looking back, the couple recalls how key the clearing skies were to their styl ish soiree. “We were heartbroken to think that the ceremony setting so representative of the sophistica tion and elegance we were trying to achieve would go unseen by our guests due to bad weather,” recalled Martha, “the first thing Mike told me when I got to the top of the aisle was ‘I told you it wouldn’t rain on your wedding day.’”

and that is just what nicole and blake did for their wedding at rosecliff mansion, by bringing some

new orleans style jazz all the way to newport.

{1} highlights

It was the grandeur and classic tradition of Rosecliff that appealed to Nicole and Blake according to wedding planner Stasia Anthony of Exquisite Events, “They were both from New Orleans and so much of the mansion’s style mirrored New Orleans in the 40s and definitely spoke to their affinity for the city’s traditions and “Nawlins” jazz—both integral parts of the grand celebration they had planned for their spring destination wedding in Newport. It was Bourbon Street meets Bellevue Avenue, with fabulous food, gracious service, and their favorite jazz music being paramount. Blackstone Caterers served an elegant dinner (including a few nods to the North and South, like lobster bisque and crab cakes with remoulade sauce) and the couple brought legendary New Orleans Jazz musician Kermit Ruffins up for the event to entertain and lead the crowd in the traditional “Second Line Dance.” Also known as “second lining,” the couple carried traditional feather rimmed parasols and followed the band in a celebratory parade as their guests joined in behind them, waving linen handkerchiefs as they danced and enjoyed the music. Nicole had a special hankie for each guest tucked into their place card; both quintessential New Orleans touches that added a whole lot of southern charm to the elegant evening.

Ten years to the day after their first date, Katie and Mark married on the bloom-filled farmer’s porch of their lovely home. Edna Dratch-Parker, of EFD Creative-Event Planning and Design, helped them create their charming backyard event. “The feeling was meant to be intimate and cozy, and homemade,” recalls Dratch-Parker, “they loved the vintage rustic look, so we worked hard to create a tent wedding that would illustrate their vision.” To infuse meaning into every inch of the wedding, Katie called upon friends and family to help execute the details. “My brother cut the wood rounds that held our centerpieces, Mark’s mother made the linen tablecloths, I made the chalkboard menus and hand painted all the signs that Mark cut from scrap wood,” Katie revealed, “bringing our vision to life with these hand-crafted details was a lot of fun.” Warm amber lighting with an organic leaf motif from DesignLight projected onto the tent added a romantic vibe. “The lighting, along with an abundance of mason jars and candles, made for just the right ambiance—it was key to the vintage look and feel,” explained Katie. Throughout the day, guests were encouraged to enjoy the couple’s bocce court, horseshoe pit, and zip line, and make themselves right at home. “Katie and Mark put their personal stamp on the event,” shared Dratch-Parker, “and I was able to see how perfect they were for each other, and learned a lot about their romantic view of the world as I saw the wedding unfold.”

The warmth of vintage details set the stage for a romantic country wedding full of rustic charm and quaint Americana style.

highlights

Event planner Kristin Love of Details with Love fashioned vintage details, in a colorful palette of poppy red and robin’s-egg blue, to create an Americana-style wedding at bucolic Mt. Hope Farm in Bristol, Rhode Island. The “Miss American Pie” theme was the spark that allowed Love to imagine a mixture of details that brought together the rustic romance of the setting with the charm and whimsy of the couple’s fun theme. A lace-trimmed runner and a floral runner in pinks and reds, both from Ryan Designs, added the perfect counterpoint to the distressed-wood table and creamy white china. Accents of robin’segg blue were scattered throughout adding a cozy casualness reminiscent of a farmhouse kitchen or country cottage. Lovely garden-style flowers in soft shades of pink and yellow were loosely arranged in mason jars adding extra warmth and charm. For the “good old boys” a whiskey bar was set up for after-dinner sipping and a gift of hand-rolled cigars was the perfect accompaniment. In addition to a traditional wedding cake and in keeping with the Americana theme, guests were treated to a dessert table featuring local fresh-baked apple pies—the perfect ending to a beautiful country wedding.

Some brides find the task of planning a wedding overwhelming, but not so for Kerin, she just made it her full time job. Having quit her day job a year in advance, she dedicated herself to planning the perfect wedding day. | Kerin fantasized about her wedding day her entire life so it had to be perfect. Wedding magazines were her main source of inspiration and she spent hours on blogs and websites collecting ideas, so much so that her mother didn’t think there was any way she could incorporate them all into one day, but she did! Kerin designed a soft, romantic, garden party for her and Charlie’s Newport wedding, referencing a well-aged Anthropologie décor style and a muted shabby-chic palette of champagne, rose and green that spoke of her love of all things vintage. A fallinspired menu by Russell Morin Fine Catering echoed the flavors of the season. Followed by cupcakes, sweet mini desserts, and an oldfashioned ice cream sundae station, it was clear that she had figured out how to make all of those sweet ideas work together. A cigar bar for the guys, fashioned from a mix of vintage finds, was the culmination of her vision and the perfect ending for one fetching fall wedding.

Working with a bold and luxe color palette of sleek silvers and rich deep purples, Event Designer Michele Mottola of Michele Mottola Special Event Consulting, played up the swanky style of the luxurious ballroom at the Four Seasons Hotel Boston for Megan and Lakshman’s exotic wedding and reception. “We stepped away from the expected colors of gold and red that you typically find at Hindu weddings,” explained Mottola, “we kept the vibrancy and richness of the traditional palette, but used it in a more modern way.” Suzanne B. Lowell Lighting Design set the room aglow with a wash of saturated honey tones and dark violet hues, adding to the luxurious experience. Lowell also used pin lighting on each of the towering centerpieces, highlighting the landscape of budding branches that echoed the onset of spring happening outside. Keeping the design sculptural, the head table was blanketed in hand blown crystal vases, imported from Belgium, that held beautiful, sensual orchids. A breathtaking mirrored elephant that welcomed guests in the ballroom foyer (hand selected by Mottola on a trip to Europe) was set on a glass riser lined with glowing candles and rich red rose petals, illuminating the elephant and casting a magical reflected pattern everywhere. “In Indian culture, the elephant represents loyalty, good luck, and good fortune,” added Mottola, “all qualities of a good marriage.” After the guests enjoyed their meals, the lights were dimmed quite low and the rhythmic beating of drums began. Just as the heart-pounding sounds enveloped the room, the lights were turned up and the dance floor came alive with a performance of traditional Bhangra dancers. This pairing of traditional Hindu customs with the contemporary design of the event, created a one-of-a-kind wedding for the couple and left guests with an unforgettable experience.

The magic of the city dusted in white drew Anny and Anthony to Boston for their fairytale winter wedding. | The iconic beauty of New England in winter inspired the couple to plan their February wedding right in the city, offering their guests a taste of Boston’s history, but with a more intimate feel that naturally comes when a chill fills the air and a hush blankets the streets. They chose The Charles Hotel for its world-class service, amazing food and historic location in Harvard Square, where guests could stay and enjoy all that the city had to offer right outside its doors. Although it may have been cold outside, nobody felt the slightest chill (even from the “Love” ice sculpture—a nod to the couples new home in Philadelphia) as the ballroom glowed with the warmth of candlelight against romantic shades of rose, white and gold.

The fall wedding of Victoria and Joseph in Concord, Massachusetts commemorated their passion for politics and each other. | When the couple met while working as political staffers on a local Senate campaign, little did they know that the endless hours spent together on the campaign trail, would lead to love. A proposal soon followed and the date was set for a fall wedding at the home of the groom’s parents, political historian Doris Kearns Goodwin and Richard N. Goodwin a writer and former presidential advisor. The location was the perfect blend of rustic elegance and political savoir-faire. Guests were seated at tables named after historical and political figures admired by the couple and stacks of their favorite inspirational books (some authored by the groom’s parents) alternated with elegant floral arrangements as centerpieces. Small white pumpkins at each place setting atop textured burlap linens added a subtle fall feel as guests dined by candlelight on a menu of seasonal fare, artfully prepared by The Catered Affair. The bride surprised her groom with a set of cuff links, fashioned after a campaign button that read “Goodwin Bonney 2011” and guests were given buttons to wear with the same slogan, commemorating the couple’s mutual passion for politics and each other.

A TRIP TO LONDON BROUGHT LINDSAY AND MATT TOGETHER. THEIR WEDDING BROUGHT THEM STATESIDE FOR A BEAUTIFUL

CAPE COD SUMMER CELEBRATION AT THE MANSION AT OCEAN EDGE RESORT.

HIGHLIGHTS

Matt and Lindsay met while she was on a business trip to London a number of years ago. They had an instant connection that quickly turned to love and soon after, they found themselves making wedding plans. Lindsay loved the Cape, having spent her summers at the beach in Brewster and then working at Ocean Edge Resort when she was older. She shared this special place with Matt when they returned to the states to visit family and friends, and there was no question that it was where they would be married. “We wanted a relaxed, romantic, shore-chic feeling to the day,” recalled Lindsay, “a balance between cheerful, sleek, playful and sophisticated.” To accomplish this she called upon Floral Designer Karen Taddei of Lilacs who, together with Dyane Silins of Be Our Guest, made it all come together. “We came up with a clean and contemporary palette of white and yellow,” explained Taddei, “clever mixes of textures with an abundance of candlelight and all white blooms created a casual yet romantic setting with pops of yellow in the supporting décor details.” Taddei’s chic signature style matched Lindsay’s vision perfectly, white hydrangea, orchids and tulips were artfully arranged to achieve the overall look. Lindsay and Matt added a few personal touches—they served Pimm’s Cups (a classic British cocktail) that were a big hit with the guests and they engaged their nephews as flag bearers, who proudly carried both the American flag and the Union Jack at the ceremony, representative of the two families coming together, across the pond to the ocean’s edge, for a memorable wedding on beautiful Cape Cod.

The Grand Ballroom at the Providence Biltmore was magically transformed into a lush woodland garden for Roxanne and Charles’ elegant May wedding complete with a few spring showers for added good luck.

highlights The moment Roxanne and Charles walked into the Grand Ballroom of the Providence Biltmore they fell in love with the space and its history and knew it was the ideal venue for their spring wedding and reception. The couple was planning their entire wedding long distance from New York and wanted a location that could address all aspects of their wedding as well as provide accommodations for their out-of-town guests. “Director of Catering, Scott Connery and his staff took amazing care of us all the way,” shared Roxanne. The ceremony and reception were both in the Grand Ballroom so cocktails across the hall in L’Apogee allowed the team time to change over the room unbeknownst to guests. Semia Dunne of Flowers By Semia magically transformed the space filling the ballroom with vases of flowering dogwood and kwanzan cherry branches, which flooded the room with the look and feel of a magical woodland garden in spring. Lush centerpieces of ranunculus, tulips, roses, peonies and orchids added the requisite elegance and formality befitting the hotel’s grand style and the bride’s vision. “We had intended to be minimalistic with the flowers, but we couldn’t resist the beautiful spring blooms and Semia’s talents—it was wonderful to share our vision with her and then see her artistry manifest it more beautifully than we ever could have imagined.”

Fashion buyer and California girl Nicole turned to wedding planner Pamela D’Orsi Ryan to help her create a distinct destination wedding that echoed her on-trend tastes.

Working in the fashion industry gave Nicole a vast resource of inspiration from which to pull ideas for planning her stylish Belle Mer wedding. A stand out was designer Missoni, whose iconic chevron patterns Nicole borrowed for all of her paper designs and wedding day details. “I loved mixing the sharp, modern chevron pattern with softer elements,” touted Nicole, “and the contemporary look of Belle Mer was a beautiful canvas for all of it.” Semia Dunne, owner of Flowers by Semia, styled the mod yellow blooms in a way that blended seamlessly with Nicole’s vision. “The sophisticated yet whimsical choice of wedding colors gave us a tremendous palette against the pure white backdrop of Belle Mer,” raved Dunne, “and the throw-back style of the glamelia bouquet with the modern billy balls perfectly complemented Nicole’s fun style and personality—chic and charming.” When it came to trying to plan all of the little details all the way from California, Nicole and Aaron invoked the assistance of wedding planner Pamela D’Orsi Ryan of Pamela D’Orsi Ryan Events. “My favorite part of the planning process was that they trusted my advice,” recalls D’Orsi Ryan, “I understood Nicole and Aaron’s style and chose accents that I knew they would love.” Nicole agreed, “Inspiration is one thing, but pulling it all together is another. That’s when a great relationship with your wedding planner really matters most. Pamela took my vision to a level beyond my imagination.”

Reflecting their love of the outdoors, a simple organic image inspired Lisa and Matt’s naturally beautiful Belle Mer wedding designed by Donna Kim of The Perfect Details. | When Lisa and Matt first met with Kim to begin planning their summer wedding, they fell in love with a wooden menu card that Kim had displayed in her studio. They wanted something unique and different for their décor that had an organic feel and that reflected their love of the outdoors without looking too “themed” so Kim designed every element of the wedding; menus, place cards, table numbers and signs to include a majestic tree on a special printable wood. Stoneblossom Floral & Event Design then added a layer of texture and dimension to the event with unique branches, green moss, simple white blooms and lots of white candles. Combined with stunning views from The Island House at Belle Mer, the result was an elegant, organic look for a naturally beautiful wedding day.

While dating long distance, Carolyn confessed to Dusty that through the entire duration of her time in Los Angeles, she had never gotten around to purchasing the beach cruiser she had always wanted. After she moved home to Massachusetts, Dusty surprised her with a birthday trip to the bike shop, where she chose the lime green classic cycle and they began riding together often. On one such ride, to historic Salem for a picnic at Pickering Wharf, Dusty proposed. So it was only natural that the cruiser would be included in their wedding day since its vintage styling worked seamlessly with the romantic garden wedding that the couple envisioned. “We had no idea how gorgeous the cruiser would look in the green gardens of Glen Magna,” explained Carolyn, “the grounds were absolutely stunning and the bike fit right in.” Floral Designer Gregory CostaSaint John, owner of Flou(-e)r, used concrete ornate pedestals with a lush mix of hydrangea, dusty miller, dahlias and roses to add to the fete’s garden feel. “Carolyn’s floral vision perfectly fit the mold of Glen Magna,” Costa-Saint John shared, “we created a natural, organic, fresh-from-the-garden look, with a hint of a vintage vibe.” Guests enjoyed refreshments in the gardens with dinner and dancing in the grand tent. It was apparent that this perfectly matched theme and setting, worked in tandem beautifully to create a dreamy wedding day for this perfectly matched couple. more}

Floral Designer Nicole Pirani of Blooms of Hope delighted guests with a Wizard of Oz themed bridal shower full of details that brought the beloved film to life. | Leah had played the lead role of Dorothy in her grade-school production of The Wizard of Oz, so her bridesmaids (many of them friends since childhood) thought that the movie would make a fun party theme for a “No Place Like Home” bridal shower in her honor. Nicole Pirani of Blooms of Hope pulled iconic images from the film and incorporated them into an imaginative, interactive event. Picnic baskets filled with bright red blooms set against blue and white gingham linens transported guests to Auntie Em’s farm. The Over the Rainbow candy bar featured lemon drops, swirled Munchkin Land lollipops and cupcakes topped with red hearts in honor of the Tin Man’s quest. Everyone took home a pair of black ballet flats wrapped in cute gingham bags. Leah, of course, got the Ruby Slippers—a fun reminder that there is “no place like home” and nothing like great friends!

When city girl Krista got engaged she turned to some of the area’s leaders in event design to execute a cutting-edge evening full of glamour and sparkle. “I made sure to select an A+ team of vendors,” explained Krista, “when you’re in good hands, there is nothing to worry about.” First up—flowers, and Joyce Holland from Stoneblossom Floral & Event Design was a big part of the inspiration. “We first created a fabulous, lush peony and orchid bouquet that mimicked her ruffled Marchesa gown,” Holland raved, “then we added Swarovski crystals for a bit of extra bling!” When deciding on décor for the ballroom, the bride turned to Tony Ormonde of Ormonde Productions. “We draped the perimeter of the ballroom in sheer white fabric and illuminated it in various colors throughout the evening to provide multiple experiences for the guests,” Ormonde informed. To further enhance the sleek city vibe, mirrors were used everywhere. “We hung eight elegant mirrored chandeliers in the ballroom which picked up and reflected light so beautifully,” added Ormonde. A mirrored cityscape of flowers was also used to create the escort card table. Many levels of mirrored blocks, along with tons of sleek mirrored vases brimming with orchids and candlelight, created the stunning focal point as guests arrived. In addition, each place setting was adorned with an exquisite orchid detail, adding a little extra glam to this chic city gala.

There is a lot more to Boston than baseball, baked beans, Paul Revere and artisanal beer and so this wedding weekend Welcome Party offered visiting guests a chance to brush up on a wealth of not–so-common fun facts about the city as they prepared for their eventfilled stay in Beantown. Post 390 played host for the intimate evening, featuring some of their in-house specialties in addition to some tongue-in-cheek offerings that referenced Boston’s famed history. Guests enjoyed Rose Kennedy Cocktails, One if By Land, Two if by Sea appetizers and after dinner, Irish coffee and Boston cream pie. At the end of the evening everyone was given a canvas tote filled with local novelties and a few fun keepsakes to commemorate the special weekend and of course, a bag of those famous baked beans.

Fifteen years in the making, Emily and Jack’s major-league romance finally rounds home plate with a vintage-style ceremony, focused on family ties and fun times at Boston’s Fenway Park. | The couple met on Landsdowne Street at a club back in 1996 and began a whirlwind romance that took them first to the San Francisco Bay area and then to Idaho where they bought a house and settled down. “Three boys, two dogs and a million precious memories later,” as Emily described it, this free-spirited couple returned to Jack’s hometown of Boston to finally tie the knot. Since they had met near Fenway, there seemed no better place than atop the Green Monster for this retro-ballpark celebration. Emily wore a vintage gown (with added pops of her fun personality) and carried an antique brooch bouquet that she crafted herself. The boys looked dashing in their bow ties, sweater vests and cool argyle baseball caps as they joined Mom and Dad for a “team photo,” a VIP tour of Fenway and a special family day that they won’t soon forget.

Candice Coppola of Jubilee Events created a romantic black-tie wedding for a classically couture couple reminiscent of the days of The Great Gastby.

Rachelle and her mother had always been fans of antiquing, and began to create a collection of pink depression glass when Richard proposed. “It was perfect for what I had envisioned my wedding to be—delicate and elegant,” informed Rachelle. Design inspiration bloomed for Candice Coppola, owner and creative director of Jubilee Events, when she viewed the collection and it became the basis for the event’s color palette. “The theme was vintage black tie, in shades of pink and blush,” explained Coppola, “we wanted it to be a romantic throwback to the 1920s and we carried that out with antique styling.” Added Elisabeth Zemetis owner of Blush Floral Design, “I was instantly intrigued by the rose-colored depression glass. I filled the pieces with soft antiquepink seasonal blooms and accented with black garden urns and charcoal table numbers to add contrast and balance to the femininity.” Coppola agreed, “We added just the right amount of girliness.” The gilded chandeliers and textured walls of the French-designed Tomes-Higgins House was a superb setting for the polished celebration. As the ceremony began, guests dodged raindrops and gathered under the canopy of the Sperry tent while Rachelle exited the classic white Rolls Royce. The drizzle stopped and after the cocktail hour on the patio, guests enjoyed a progressive tasting menu complete with wine pairings. Après dinner, Rachelle changed into a Grace Kelly-inspired tulle party dress and joined Richard and their guests on the slate patio under a bevy of twinkling bistro lights, where they danced the night away to the sounds of Gatsby-era jazz played by the vintage five-piece band.

Past meets present for Brooke and Richard, as they surround themselves with family, friends and over 185 years of rich New England history, at their elegant wedding reception at The Peabody Essex Museum. | Guests entered through the stunning contemporary glass and steel atrium and enjoyed cocktails in the Bartlett china gallery before strolling past rooms filled with colonial art, on their way to dinner in the historic East India Marine Hall built in 1825. For Brooke and Richard, The Peabody Essex Museum was the most spectacular New England setting for their reception. The beautiful maritime art served as the room’s décor and as not to compete, two elegant long tables were dressed with simple white flowers. Early Parisian jazz filled the hall as an intimate dinner was served.“The Peabody Essex Museum offered a dramatic blend of both an historic and contemporary architectural setting for our wedding reception,” shared Brooke,“it grounded our marriage celebration with a definite sense of history and place and marked the beginning of our own history together.”

Sarah and Matt thought there was no prettier place than Cape Cod in the fall. Sarah had grown up visiting her grandparents there and enjoyed fond memories, so when they decided to get married a destination wedding was planned. A rehearsal party with a true Cape Cod feel was a great way to share with their guests what they loved about the area. Hoping for a location that was casual and intimate, they enlisted the help of Event Planner Connie Nye Clark of The Perfect Plan to find the iconic spot. The Mack House in Chatham proved ideal with its private setting and lovely views of Stag Harbor. An evening of fun festivities was planned that included cocktails, a classic clambake and s’mores by the fire. “The dinner tent was decorated in crisp navy and white plaid linens with bright red accents in the dinnerware and napkins. Vases of bright sunflowers added a fun pop of color,” explained Clark. Also, to the delight of the guests, an authentic Cape clambake was prepared featuring a live demonstration on how to eat lobster. As a sweet ending to a great evening, guests enjoyed s’mores by the campfire and making their own special memories of Cape Cod to take home with them.

The New Bedford Whaling Museum served guests a helping of local history along with great food and fun at a rehearsal dinner to remember for Franny and Bobby. | With a guest list that rivaled that of the wedding, Event Planner Wendy Joblon of Wendy Joblon Events needed a venue large enough to accommodate a big party comfortably. The couple had ties to the area (the bride’s parents have a summer home in South Dartmouth) and The New Bedford Whaling Museum provided the needed space along with an abundance of relics and replicas that gave guests a true sense of the area’s rich, maritime history. Joblon used nautical navy linens as an ideal backdrop for pops of bright summer color in lush floral centerpieces by Sayles Livingston Design. “The museum itself provided the rest of the décor,” shared Joblon, “and guests were in awe of how much there was to see.”

NOSTALGIA Stacie and Matthew stepped out in style as the stars of their glamorous wedding reminiscent of Old Hollywood at the chic Newport Country Club.

HIGHLIGHTS

Guests were whisked away to the golden age of Hollywood when they walked into Stacie and Matthew’s wedding at the exclusive Newport Country Club. Judith Carroll, owner of Papers and mother of the groom, helped plan the event. “We recreated the mood of a 1940’s nightclub with an emphasis on sultry and romantic,” shared Carroll. She added, “The result was a stunning and elegant atmosphere that evoked the era of Bogey and Bacall.” Sophisticated and timeless colors of charcoal grey and butter yellow were used to create the polished palette, along with antique items such as a vintage typewriter and an old-fashioned fan. “The invitations set the tone of the event by using the same sleek hues,” Carroll explained. The glamorous silver vases and antique sterling pieces that Floral Designer Toni Chandler chose for the event sparkled against the crushed charcoal linens and opulent silver-rimmed place settings. Luke Renchan of Luke Renchan Entertainment created an intimate ambiance during dinner with the addition of warm amber lighting and subtle, sultry background music. The evening continued with a display of Stacie and Matthew’s new ballroom dancing skills, as they showed guests some of the dance styles of the 1940’s era. As the sun set over the cliffs of Newport, the newlyweds and bridal party strolled around the rolling greens of the country club and soaked in the last moments of summer, then returned to the ballroom for another spin around the dance floor. Stacie and Matthew’s nostalgic nuptials left guests with lasting memories of a special night filled with the style and glamour of old Hollywood.

A bit of Tuscany in the heart of New England, Zorvino Vineyards provided the perfect rustic backdrop for Andrea and Joe’s fall vineyard wedding | As the catering manager for a hotel, Andrea had helped many brides plan lovely weddings, but for her own fall fete, she wanted something different. Zorvino Vineyards, with its rustic post and beam manor house and stunning grounds, had a casual elegance that was just right for Andrea and Joe’s vineyard-themed wedding. Fall being their favorite season; they felt that the vineyard connected to the season perfectly with its warmth and charm. Golden-hued grape leaves and beautiful fruit on the vines, inspired a color palette of plum, sage and champagne that Andrea incorporated into every aspect of their stunning wedding day.

Together with wedding planner Allison Liset, a sentimental couple created nautical nuptials that ended with an emotional sendoff and a big bang at the legendary Chatham Bars Inn.

HIGHLIGHTS

Cape Cod has a way of always drawing people back, with its quintessential charm and inviting beaches. When the tides brought Megan and Ryan back to the Cape time after time, they decided it was where they should marry. “We wanted to do something different and have a memorable experience,” Megan shared, “not only for ourselves, but also for our guests.” The couple wanted to include nautical details as little nods to the local area. Allison Liset of Elegant Engagements helped them coordinate all the personalized pieces, the biggest of which was their private vow exchange. “We wanted to have that moment just to ourselves,” recalled Megan, “it was so beautiful and special.” A public ceremony then took place, followed by a recessional parade around the property. During the reception guests enjoyed elements custom designed to coordinate with the colors and theme of the wedding—everything from drink stirrers to pashmina wraps were in the couple’s signature shade of blue, and the boat rope emblem on the invitations was repeated throughout the event. At the end of the evening, the father of the bride asked Liset to bring the guests down to the beach. “We lured them out with sparklers,” she explained, “and then the bride’s father surprised the newlyweds and their guests with a custom fireworks display to top off the most amazing evening with a bang!” “My dad had remembered that I had once told him that I loved the exit scene in The Father of the Bride,” Megan gushed, “the firework display he recreated from the movie was so magical and beautiful —something I’ll always remember.”

“Imagine sunset over the Serengeti, the inky silhouette of gnarled Acacia trees against a fiery orange sky. Majestic animals freely sauntering across the horizon in this vastness of untouched beauty.” John Orton of John Orton Flowers vividly recalled his own African safari journey. So when Event Planner Barbara Beckwith of Excelebrations consulted with him for a rehearsal dinner party for her clients, he drew upon his own amazing memories of a place of fascination for him, and set out to recreate as much of that experience as possible for guests. Working closely with Tony Ormonde of Ormonde Productions, they first focused on the essential element of the design – lighting. “Lighting was key to the theme of the party because it had such an impact on the mood and environment,” explained Ormonde, “we painted with light and imagery on the canopy of the tent to create a realistic and breathtaking safari landscape that set the mood for this event.” Orton then attended to the finer details by adding layers of texture, color and pattern to the space. Long wooden tables were dressed with linen runners, lanterns, twisted vines, and brightly colored exotic florals, and then bathed in candlelight. Canopies of gossamer mosquito netting, vines and more lanterns were added above the tables. Aromatic spices filled the air from the food stations as the beat of African drums echoed in the distance. Arrangements of exotic grasses lined the tent entrance and carved masks, antique baskets and other souvenirs from Orton’s travels, dotted the space and underscored the theme, transporting guests on their very own safari sojourn to Africa.

Kerri Fusco, owner of Sweet Indulgence, together with Photographer Heidi Hope, created an amazing underwater world complete with details designed to impress the birthday girl and all of her tiny guests. From linens to lanterns, and treats to tutus, every element coordinated in shades of aqua blue and sea glass green, bringing the fantasy to life for these little mermaids. The irresistible treat table full of Sweet Indulgence’s specialties showcased Fusco’s skill at creating confections for any imaginable theme or palette that elevates the party to an event. Sea horse-topped cupcakes, shimmering starfish marshmallow pops and chocolate-dipped pretzels sprinkled with ocean blue sugar were the sweetest birthday treats, perfectly sized for these little hands. Bubbles, giggles, twirls and spins, oh what fun to pretend for just one day that little girls can really have mermaid fins.

HIGHLIGHTS

Three little girls grew up in the same neighborhood, playing Barbies and putting on dance rehearsals and doing all the things little girls do. Fast forward to high school and those little girls are now young women with a shared love of fashion and fun design. Rachel, Megan, and Alice’s birthdays fell within a few months of each other, so the longtime friends decided to throw a joint summertime Sweet Sixteen party in Alice’s backyard that celebrated their taste for all things Anthropologie—one of their favorite stores and the inspiration for the Bohemian-chic vibe of the bash. Vivacious shades of purple, orange, aqua and pink created a girly, playful palette that was used everywhere from the outdoor lounge to the party inside the barn. A “sweet and salty” snack table overflowed with refreshments and tempted guests with a fabulous three-tier birthday cake from Something Different Cake Couture, monogrammed cookies and charming cupcakes from Scrumptions along with a variety of salty snacks and fizzy drinks for all to enjoy. Sweet Tree Studio also designed the invitations, banners, decals and treat cones in an array of patterns and colors using the same fun palette. An eclectic mix of found objects really played up the casual Bohemian party theme; mason jars, vintage cake stands, milk glass vases, an antique owl lamp, peacock feathers and an old bird cage added to the fun and funky atmosphere. After the cake was cut, everyone gathered in the backyard lounge to hang out and mingle under a huge oak tree set aglow with twinkling lights, paper lanterns, and shabby-chic crystal chandeliers. “My sixteenth birthday party was amazing,” exclaimed Rachel, “and it was made even more special by sharing it with two of my best friends!”

Event Designer Michele Mottola of Michele Mottola Special Event Consulting finds fun, creative ways to entertain little guests at even the most elegant of evening affairs. | Having kids at a special event can be fun, but usually presents a unique challenge—like how to keep them engaged and entertained so the adults can relax and enjoy themselves without running for the exit just as the party is getting started. Mottola addresses the challenge by creating spaces specifically designed for kids that makes them feel special. “Keeping things colorful yet purposeful (even if it looks out of place with the rest of the event) all but guarantees that kids will feel like guests of honor and will want to enjoy the experience,” shares Mottola. For this elegant fall wedding, the children (13 of them ages 2-10) enjoyed the same five-course dining experience as the adults, but with a kid-friendly menu of chicken fingers, macaroni and cheese, watermelon slices and kettle corn. “Knowing they were being served something special kept them waiting in their seats to see what was coming next,” explained Mottola. Colorful trays filled with sweet treats, blocks, chalk and drawing paper, kept them entertained through dinner and when all were finished eating, they packed up their treasures in the little individual suitcases and headed to the dance floor for the next round of fun.

Event Planner Tasha Bracken of SD Events helped Ben and his friends celebrate his special day and his love of the game with a basketball-themed Bar Mitzvah that was a crowd-pleasing slam dunk. | Ben loves basketball, so when it came time to plan his Bar Mitzvah celebration, naturally his favorite sport would come into play as the perfect theme for his party. The clever invitations designed by his mother Mara Weiner, owner of Allure Invitations, set the tone for the event with a classic party invite on one side and the back side designed to look and feel like a real leather basketball. The fun escort cards resembled authentic game tickets, with Ben pictured as the pro player on every one. Giant inflatable basketballs floated overhead above the tables and an edible basketball was the centerpiece of the amazing themed cake. Ben surprised his guests with personalized basketballs as party favors, which were a “big hit” according to Bracken. Following the event Ben personally donated all of the extra basketballs to a local children’s charity—a game-winning move for this party’s MVP.

Event Designer Janie Haas has a “bigger is better” philosophy when it comes to planning events. Not big in the sense of size or budget necessarily, (although she works it all) but more about her ability to identify the big pieces that add to a party and really pack a punch—the “wow factor” that transforms spaces and elevates parties to event status. For this Bat Mitzvah celebration at the state-of-the-art facility at WGBH in Boston, it wasn’t a theme that her clients were after, but rather a hip, urban environment inspired by the energy and excitement of New York City. “Details were paramount in the design process,” explained Haas. “Every detail supported the vibe we were trying to create or we didn’t use it.” High-top cocktail tables made out of oil drums, a faux-brick graffiti wall, manholes complete with rising steam, street food served out of subway cars, graffiti artists, dramatic lighting and even piped in “street noise” that collectively transported guests to the heart of the city. The entertainment however was the driving force behind the energy of the event. “We hired a group out of New York that included an emcee, DJ, dancers, vocalists, five live musicians and visual components as well. They all performed simultaneously on an edgy, industrial stage built from scaffolding. That combined with a cool fog wall (an entire wall of fog created between two pockets of air that you could walk through and draw on) resulted in a multisensory, interactive experience that was completely high energy.” It’s Haas’ experience, vision, and a great team of vendors that she credits for successes like this, “street cred” if you will, and it’s that reputation and experience that made this special celebration such a huge success.

The exotic setting of Temple in the lower level of the Renaissance Hotel in Providence set the tone for a sultry Sweet 16 designed by event company Hopple Popple. | Ultra-luxe flocked velvet linens in rich purple and orange spice along with an abundance of brightly colored glass lanterns created a magical feel for Megan’s Moroccan-themed Sweet 16 at Temple Restaurant (formerly the old Masonic Temple) at the Renaissance Hotel. “Megan and her family happened to come to the hotel for dinner in Temple Restaurant and fell in love with the look and feel of the room and its décor,” shared Sarah German, catering sales manager at Renaissance Hotel. “There is absolutely no other place with its uniqueness—it inspired the exotic theme and the family just knew that it was the perfect place for Megan’s big day.” Bold uplighting added extra drama, creating a youthful, hip atmosphere that was embellished with the colorful details that gave this Sweet 16 its spicy Moroccan flavor.

A SHERBET COLORED GRADUATION PARTY IS CELEBRATED IN SWEET SUMMER STYLE AS THESE FASHIONABLE FRIENDS SHARE THEIR FAVORITE MEMORIES AND FUTURE DREAMS AMONGST THE ROSES OF ELIZABETH PARK IN HARTFORD.

HIGHLIGHTS

When Beth Chapman, owner and lead stylist at The White Dress by the Shore, conceptualized this graduation garden party, she took her fashion inspiration from the park and its lovely surroundings. “We selected dresses in delicious sherbet colors that played beautifully off the colors in the rose garden,” recalls Chapman, “we wanted to keep the looks young, fun and whimsical.” Similarly, Diana Chouinard of Jubilee Events was inspired by the garden for the party design as well. “I thought back to when I graduated—all the excitement, all the fun! I wanted to infuse every bit of that into this party and I wanted to bring in colors and details that made you feel the excitement of the day,” exclaimed Chouinard, “yellow and pink were natural choices because they exude energy and playfulness.” Tony Palmieri of Datura: A Modern Garden used that same lively color palette when designing the charming florals. A sunshine-hued runner made of open yellow roses was the focus of the center of the table. Lush and vibrant pink peonies were dotted throughout the tablescape and tied to the backs of the Chiavari chairs for an added delightful detail. Pretty and feminine, this day of jubilation celebrated the sweetness of a time in life when the summers are long and the future is bright.

Ahhh summer! In these hot, unhurried sunny months the great outdoors becomes one giant playground. It seems like once the temperature breaks 60 degrees our thoughts turn to sundresses and sandals, catching some rays, backyard barbecues, and finding time to play. We head out early and stay out late, eagerly in search of some cool summer fun. To beat the city heat in Boston, we headed to the rooftop of The Colonnade Hotel for a Palm Springs-inspired pool party with a hint of mod 70’s flair. Bold retro prints paired with bright cabana stripes create a fun, casual mood for an afternoon of carefree lounging. Described as an oasis in the middle of the city with an air of old Hollywood glam, the RTP (roof top pool as it’s nicknamed) is the only one of its kind in the city, making it the hippest, most happening place for this cool summer escape. The Colonnade catered an amazing buffet of summer delights and we served them poolside with our signature “poptails” (Prosecco and fruity popsicles) at a swanky cabana bar as the music of the Chi-Lites, The Jackson 5 and Al Green floated in the air. High above the hustle of the city guests relished a peaceful day by the pool—the style of summer is relaxed and fun so when temps heat up think 70’s cool! Read on for tips on how to get the look.

THE CITY SKYLINE FROM

BOSTON HARBOR

IS AN IMPRESSIVE BACKDROP FOR THIS 30TH BIRTHDAY BASH ABOARD ENTERTAINMENT CRUISES' PRIVATE YACHT, SEAPORT ELITE.

{1} highlights

Calm seas, blue skies, a cadre of close friends, cocktails and a sleek private yacht make cruising into 30 a trip anyone would look forward to taking! The Seaport Elite, Entertainment Cruises' private yacht (the smallest and most intimate of its three luxury cruising vessels in Boston) offers an ultra cool, super-chic alternative to the Hub’s typical party pubs and waterview restaurants. When it came to planning this milestone celebration, the birthday boy and guests alike were treated to a first-class dining experience with amazing views of historic Boston that you can only get from the water. Once on board, the party began with appetizers and cocktails on the upper deck’s outdoor patio and later moved inside for an intimate dinner in the main dining salon as the sun began to set and the city lights came up. Everything from invitations to table settings had a modern, nautical feel and a simple yet elegant arrangement of white orchids and driftwood offered an added touch of luxury to the already decadent duo of surf and turf that was served for this amazing dinner. Afterwards, as the cake was being cut, laughter-filled refrains of “Happy Birthday” could be heard floating across the harbor as the Captain set course for the return to Rowes Wharf and guest enjoyed the last leg of this very special high-seas celebration.

No visit to New England should be complete without savoring the fun and flavors of an old-fashioned coastal clambake. | Sara and Jason Oliveira, owners of Compton Clambakes, have been entertaining patrons with their authentic “bakes” for the past 12 years and are committed to an innovative approach to this time-honored tradition. Only native lobsters, local shellfish, vegetables from nearby farms and the freshest seaweed go into their classic clambakes, prepared by Jason (the bakemaster) using a method that is almost identical to that used by the Indians over 200 years ago. Perfected to a modern art form by the addition of steaming racks, tarps, wet naps, bibs, drawn butter and years of knowledge and know how, the Compton Clambake team is always excited about “the show” and giving their guests a fun experience, a little education, an amazing meal and an unforgettable memory of this favorite New England tradition.

the VISION

Beyond the blaze of beautiful foliage, something magical happens when the sun falls below the equator and the earth prepares itself for a period of rest and renewal. The air chills, our lives quiet and after enjoying the vast openness of the warmer months, we move inside, gather closer and embrace the mellow richness that is the hallmark of autumn. It is one of the most enjoyable times of the year for planning events that allows us to explore unconventional color schemes, rustic finishes, luxurious textures and unique touches that go beyond the traditional, inspiring us to reinterpret the fading beauty around us. Taking our cues from nature and the stunning array of colors and textures in the wine cellar at the Borsari Gallery Cape Cod, we created a seasonal look that mixes vintage finds with modern accents then paired it with a menu from The Casual Gourmet, featuring imaginative dishes, inspired by the local seasonal bounty. A stunning centerpiece by Fancy Flowers with its muted blooms and abundance of textures, anchors the table and sums up perfectly, the feel of fall. Read on for tips on how to get the look.

Make your serving pieces part of the look by repeating textures and finishes as The Casual Gourmet did here with this warm wooden tray. 4 | It’s all about the details. Hand calligraphy and little surprises will elevate any event. Start with beautiful china like this Sophia from Be Our Guest, then dress it with a feather, a leaf or a tiny trinket. Keep it simple.

Event Planner Tasha Bracken of SD Events designed a 50th birthday party dinner at the luxurious Ames Hotel for a high-flying couple and a few of their close friends. | Bracken envisioned something fun and masculine, but intimate and personal as well, for Charlie’s 50th birthday dinner. The inspiration for the theme was based on Charlie’s profession as a pilot for Delta Airlines (his wife Caron also worked for the airline as a flight attendant) so subtle touches referencing airplanes and the airline were incorporated into the sleek evening affair. Large branch arrangements filled with glowing candles and ornamental airplanes, along with a long wooden table lined with organic florals and more candles, set the tone for the intimate gathering. Clever gift bags with luggage tags in the shape of an airplane served as place cards for each guest and menu cards imprinted with the Delta logo listed the night’s culinary offerings for this first-class fete.

to sweet berry farm for an afternoon filled with good times, great food, gift giving and an annual trek to the tree grove to choose and chop down the perfect Christmas tree.

{1} {2} highlights

In front of the barn at Sweet Berry Farm, everyone feels a familiar nip in the air along with the excitement and joy that only the holidays can bring. Christmas won’t officially begin until houses are filled with the sights and scents of the season and the annual Tree Trimming Party officially kicks things off! This group had made “tree falling” at Sweet Berry an annual tradition, as they bundle up and make their way out to the grove of evergreens, in search of the perfect one! With children and trees in tow, chilly cheeks and cold feet soon have everyone heading back to the barn for some piping hot cocoa and delicious comfort food. Chanterelle Boutique Catering created an amazing array of savory, satisfying snacks, that warmed both body and soul and a hot chocolate buffet, complete with toppings galore, to satisfy both young and old. When the last cookie is eaten and day turns to night, everyone gathers by the fire to swap presents and stories and add to their collection of memories—the true gifts that make Christmas so merry and bright!
