Single Block Pinot Noir 2011. Forrest Wines also scooped gold for its John Forrest Collection Waitaki Valley Pinot Noir 2010, from North Otago, while Yealands Estate picked up two gold medals for its 2012 Gruner Veltliner and Marks and Spencer Single Block Series S1 Sauvignon Blanc 2012. Some of the more uncommon Marlborough wine varieties to receive gold medal recognition included Stanley Estates' Albarino, typically found in Spain and Portugal, and Yealands Estate's Gruner Veltliner, typically found in Austria.

The International Wine Challenge is considered one of the largest and most prestigious wine competitions, featuring more than 12,000 wines. Trophy winners will be announced at the International Wine Challenge awards dinner to be held at Grosvenor House in London in July. Last year Yealands Estate picked up three trophies for its Single Block S1 Sauvignon Blanc 2011 winning the International Sauvignon Blanc, the White Marlborough trophy and the 2012 James Roger Trophy.
