#3 ANDRE & KEN STILL HOLD A SIZEABLE LEAD OVER THE 2ND PLACE TEAM OF #11 STAN & RAY WITH OUR FINAL POSITION NEXT WEEK !!

PAT ‘THE BIG EASY’ NELLIS POSTS THE BEST ROUND A (38) LAST WEEK! Team #12: Jim ‘Coach’ Loughead (51) & Erv Rock (62): Coach has seemed to get his game together and posts his second 51 in a row. In fact, Jim has posted 3 of his last four rounds at 51. Great improvement Jim. Coach’s card was filled with 4 doubles, a couple of triples and a solid par on #16. Coach is playing much better the second half. Erv really dropped off from last weeks 57, coming in 5 strokes higher. Erv posted a couple of bogeys, one double and several quads. It was a valiant effort by Erv coming in with a 62.

Team #13: Doug Busam (48) & Nate Hood (46): Doug continues to have roller coaster rounds, coming in with a 48, two strokes lower than last week. Doug started with a triple but played bogey golf for the next two holes. He added back to back doubles. He nailed his only par on #15 and finished with two bogeys on a double. Good shooting Doug. Nate has seemed to level out some, posting a decent round of 46 last week. Nate had three double to go with a triple. Nate nailed pars on 11, 16 & 18 finishing with (3) pars. Nice effort and round Nate.

Team #14: Wayne Davidson ( Bk round 42) & Rusty Ellison (46): Wayne was absent last week and a bank round of (42) was used to go up against his opponent. Wayne’s 42 netted him 22 points while he was away. Rusty had a couple of tough holes to start but seemed to recover admirably. He played bogey golf most of the round adding in a par on #16 & #18. He stuck in a double on the double water hole #14. All in all it was decent finish for Rusty coming in with a 46, with (2) pars.

Team #15: Mark Dixon (50) & Don Theol (49): Mark shaved four stokes off his previous weeks round coming in with a 50 last week. The opening hole gouged round immediately as he posted 5 extra strokes. Mark then went double – par on the next four holes. He played bogey golf from #15 thru #17. The final hole cost him a final triple. Still a good recovery round Mark. Mark finished with (2) pars. Don lost ground this week posting 3 more strokes than last week. The opening two holes cost Don 5 extra strokes. He made a par on #12 and added bogeys on 3 holes. His other three holes were filled with doubles. Good effort Don. Don finished with (1) par.

Team #16: Ernie Danos ( Bk round 57) & Steve Fleck (60): Ernie was unable to attend the league night and a bank round of 57 was used to match up against his opponent. Steve was able to play struggled on four of the first 5 holes. It was 18 extra strokes that crippled his round. He did recover some, posting bogeys on the next three holes and took a final triple on #18. Good try Steve.

Team #17: Greg Haigh (49) & Mike Kove (55): Greg and Mike both struggled this week. Greg took an opening triple and then seemed to level out. He posted bogeys on the 11th, 12th & 13th. And then got bit by a triple and double on 14 & 15.

Greg nailed his only par on #16 and then finished with a bogey on 17 and a final double on #18. Greg finished with (1) par in his round of 49, three strokes more than last week. Mike also had his troubles in last week coming into the clubhouse with a 55. Mike started with back to back doubles. He nailed a par on the first par three. The next 5 holes did extensive damage to his round. He made two quads, two doubles and a triple that crippled his round. Mike finished with (1) par in his round.

SEVERAL NICE ROUNDS WERE POSTED IN WEEK #16: #20 CHAD GUSTAW CAME IN WITH A [39]. #9 BRIAN DERITA [40], #11 RAY RESSLER [40]. #3 ANDRE VIGER [41], #3 KEN HUYGHE [41]. #9 DOMINIC DERITA [42]. #18 WARREN HOOD [43], #18 JIM KOSS [43]. STAN DRESLINSKI [44].

NICE ROUNDS GUYS!!

Team #18: Warren Hood (43) & Jim Koss (43): Both Warren & Jim posted nice rounds in week 16, both posting rounds of 43 . Warren played a steady round, posting only one double. He notched pars on #11 and #15. His only double came on hole #13. He notched bogeys on 6 holes for a decent round. Pastor notched (2) pars. Nice round Warren. Jim had an excellent round dropping 8 strokes off last weeks round. After an opening bogey, Jim nailed a birdie on #11. Jim was on pace for a lower round posting bogeys on 6 of the other 7 holes. Hole number 17 bit him for a triple. Nice round Jim. Jim finished with (1) par & (1) birdie.

Team #19: Mike Borovica (48) & Luke Borovica (52): Mike dropped five strokes off last weeks round coming in with a 48. Two of his first three holes started his round out shaky as he posted a double on 10 and triple on 12. He settled down, posting bogeys on the next three holes and nailed his only par on #15. One more bogey on 16 and then Mike got bit by back to back doubles on 17 & 18. Still a nice round Mike. Mike finished with (1) par. Partner Luke went up this week in strokes, coming in 4 shots higher, posting a 52. The opening quad started his down hill spiral. After a bogey on 11, it was double trouble on the next three holes. He nailed back to back pars to salvage some of his round on 15 & 16. The final two holes did the balance of damage as Luke posted back to back triples and a disappointing finish. Luke finished with (2) pars. Good try Luke.

Team #20: Chad Gustaw (39) & Howie Trerice (46): Chad put it back together in week 16, after a couple of disappointing rounds the last couple of weeks. Chad posts the next best round of the week, coming in with a 39. A bogey to start was followed by back to back pars. He added two more bogeys before stringing together pars on 15, 16 &17. The final bogey on #18 would have tied him for the best round of the week. Still a very nice round. Chad posted (5) pars. Good shooting Chad. Howie fell off his last couple of lower forties rounds coming in with a 46. His opening two holes and final two holes pretty much dictated his round. He posted an opening quad and followed with a double. His round was highlighted by birdies on both par threes, holes #12 and #16. He stuck in bogeys from 13 to 15. Howie finished with back to back doubles. A valiant effort Howie. Howie finished with (2) birdies.

Team #1: Denny Obenauer (55) & Ken Kelchner (47): Both players duplicated their rounds from the previous week.

Denny came in with a 55 and Ken a 47. Denny had his problems on the back nine, with an opening triple followed by back to back doubles. He again found triples on the 13th and 14th. He found a welcome bogeys on #16 & #17. He finished with a triple on #18. Good try Denny. Ken opened with a solid par on #10 and bogeyed #11. His next three holes did the most damage, posting triples on 12 & 14, sticking a double in between on 13. He finished with a par on #16 and bogeys on the remaining 3 holes. Good try Ken. Ken made (1) par.

Team #2: Dan Geiersbach Jr. (53) & Dan Geiersbach Sr. (Bk round 51): Dan Sr. was unable to attend league play and his back round of (51) was used to match up against his opponent in week 16. Dan Jr. had a decent round started, posting a three bogeys on 10 & 12 & 13 with a double on #11. The 14th & 15th did the job on his round, as he took 5 extra strokes on #14 and three more on #15. He finished with a couple more bogeys and a double on #17. A good effort Dan Jr.

Team #3: Andre Viger (41) & Ken Huyghe (41): Both players continue to play well and maintain a good size lead over 2nd place with a couple of weeks to go. Andre had a slow start to his round, opening with bogeys on 10 & 13 sticking in a double on #12. Andre got hot, nailing pars on the next four holes, with nice tee shots and good approach shots to the pin.

Andre finished with back to back bogeys and a nice round of 41 posting (4) pars. Nice shooting Andre. Ken started a bit better than his partner, posting an opening bogey followed by three pars. He took a double on #14 with a bogey on#15. He nailed a birdie on #16 and got stung by a triple on 17. Ken finished positive with a par on #18. Ken finished his 41 with (4) pars and (1) birdie. Good round Ken. Team #4: Billy Alessandrini (51) & Jim Lenkevich (49): Billy started rough, posting a couple of doubles on 10 & 11.

After a bogey on #3 the next two holes took a chunk out of his round. A quad and double added 6 extra strokes on to his score card. He played bogey golf on the next three holes and got bit by a final double on #18. Billy finished with a 51. Good try Billy. Jim started his round with an opening par on #10. He made triple on #11 and then posted back to back bogeys on 12 & 13. Hole #14 did extensive damage to his round as he added 5 extra strokes over the hole par. Jim made a nice recovery, posting back to back pars on 15 & 16. He finished on a low note, posting back to back doubles. Jim finished with 49, making (3) pars in his round. Good effort Jim. Team #5: Pat Nellis (38) & Cory Routheaux (49): Pat continues to post very nice rounds, coming in with the best round in week 16 with a 3 over 38. Pat opened with a par and then got stuck in a bogey rut. He started the bogey train on #11 and stopped them on #13. He got back on track, nailing a par on #14 and stuck a shot close on #15 to nail a birdie. Hole #16 yielded a bogey and the a solid finish by Pat with pars on the final two holes. Pat finished with (4) pars and (1) birdie.

Nice round Pat. Cory continues to struggle to get his rounds back to the mid 40’s coming in with a 49, a stroke worse than last week. Cory posted an opening double but notched a par on #11. He found one more double on #12 and added triples on 15 & 17. The balance of the round was filled with bogeys. Cory notched (1) par. Good try Cory.

Team #6: Matt Zuber ( Bk round 48) & Tim Weigel (61): Matt was absent and a bank round of 48 was used to post against his opponent in week 16. Tim could not seem to get on track and posted a round 9 strokes more than his previous week. His round was filled with doubles, triples and quad. He made an opening triple and then 5 more strokes over par on hole 11. He stuck a quad between doubles on 12 & 14. His only bogey came on #15. Tim finished with triples on his final three holes. A valiant effort Tim. Tim finished with a 61.

Team #7: Steve Ciaramitaro ( Bk round 49) & Steve Miramonti (Bk round 46): Both members were absent in week #16 and back rounds were used against their opponents. Steve C had bank round of (49) and Steve M a bank round of (46).

Team #8: Bill Marsack (50) & Ron Corfield (64): Bill had some problems in last weeks round, coming in with a (50), his first round over the forties since week 11. Bill started with doubles on the first three holes of his round. It was then on to the bogey train, posting 4 in a row. The final two holes dug in with a double on 17 and triple on 18. Good effort Bill. Ron is showing some signs of improvements coming in with 6 less strokes than last week. Ron finished with a 64. He is reducing the bacon strip holes and adding in some bogeys. Ron had three bogeys in his round. His first hole and last hole caused the most damage to his round. Still is nice improvement by Ron in his game.

Team #9: Brian DeRita (40) & Dominic DeRita (42): Brian is trying to figure out what he has to do to take points as he comes in with a great round of 40 and comes away with only 12 points playing against his opponents bank round. Brian played mostly bogey golf, posting pars on (4) holes. He posted bogeys on the other 5 holes. Nice round Brian. Dominic has sharpened his game coming in with a very nice (42). Dom started with bogeys on the first two holes. He nailed a par on #12 and birdied #15. Dom posted (1) double on #13. Dominic posted bogeys on the other (4) holes. Very nice round Dom made (1) birdie and (1) par. Nice job Dominic.

Team #10: Larry Ball (55) & Brad Dunkelberg (57): Both players fell off their last weeks rounds, Larry adding (7) more strokes this week and Brad adding 10 strokes. Larry got off to a very rough start, posting triples on the first two holes. It was doubles on 12 & 14 with another triple on #13. Larry could not get out of the doubles and triples, posting one more triple and a couple of doubles. Larry finished with a 55. Good try Larry. Brad’s first two holes destroyed his chances for a lower round right from the start. He posted 9 additional strokes to start and could not get back on strokes most of the round. Brad added four more doubles and a final triple on the par 5, 18th. Brad posted (2) bogeys on 15th & 16th. A valiant effort by Brad coming in with a 57. Good try Brad.

Team #11: Stan Dreslinski (44) & Ray Ressler (40): Stan and Ray continue to hold on to 2nd and did not gain much ground on the first place team of Andre & Ken. Stan started slow, posting a double on 10 & 12 sticking in a par on #11.

He parred on 13 and the took the bogey train for the next five holes. Stan finished with (2) pars in his round of 44. Ray played better this week, knocking off three strokes from last week, coming in with a 40. Ray bogeyed 10 & 12 sticking in a par on #11. He then put together back to back pars on 14 & 15. Ray save the par on 14 with a chip in. Ray made (2) more pars in his round. His only big blemish was the double on #17. Good round Ray. Ray finished with (5) pars.

Common Mistake of Shanking

Shanking is hitting the ball toward the back of the club face (at the hozel) usually begins with too much of the body’s weight on the toes. This causes the club head to move from the outside to the inside in the swing. Such cutting across the ball, or worse, can send it off erratically. Shanking also comes from shoving the right hand forward to try to dig a divot by hitting behind the ball with the 1,2, or 3 iron. Shanking occurs mostly with the long irons, which seem to give golfers the most trouble in their games.

Starting with the mental picture of standing on one railroad track and setting up to swing at a ball placed on the other, the ideal anti-shank golf swing would have the club head move toward the ball from a slightly inside position and strike the ball at the very moment the club face is in line with the target. In this example, the club head curves back, away from the track the ball is on.

If you are teeing up for a long iron shot and are having shanking problems, tee the ball up as high as you can. However, the only long term solution for shanking is to develop a coordinated, well-grooved swing.
