Serie Koan Koan, La luna, 2016 El koan, dentro de la filosofía Zen, es una pregunta sin solución lógica que tiene como objetivo romper las pautas normales de pensamiento e introducirse en una súbita conciencia de iluminación. La serie Astrofotografía, a la que pertenecen estas obras, está compuesta por collages realizados con fotografías de la luna procedentes del observatorio argentino. Son impresiones digitales sobre papel cebolla y tienen una edición de 5 ejemplares. Koan, The moon, 2016 The koan, In Zen philosophy, is a question that has no logical solution; its goal is to break the standard patterns of thought and introduce itself into a sudden consciousness of illumination. González Palma se interesó por el uso de la imagen astronómica como exploración de una realidad que le era, en ese momento, desconocida y que le ayuda a reflexionar sobre la noción de infinito, de misterio y de la búsqueda de un origen. Koan, Partículas cósmicas, 2016 De la serie Polvo cósmico (polvo del espacio, compuesto por partículas menores de 100 µm. que llena todo el cosmos, incluido el sistema solar, proveniente del espacio intergaláctico, interestelar o interplanetario), esta obra es un collage de dibujos geométricos elaborados a partir de fotogramas de rayos cósmicos tomados en Argentina entre 1945 y 1948. Impresiones digitales sobre papel cebolla, obra única. Koan, Cosmic particles, 2016 Belonging to the Cosmic dust series (dust from outer space, made of particles smaller than 100 µm. This dust fills all the cosmos including the solar system; it comes from intergalactic, interstellar or interplanetary space), this work is a collage created with geometric drawings that González Palma made out of cosmic rays frames taken in Argentina between 1945 and 1948. Koan, Eclipse solar, 2017 Pertenecientes a la serie Astrofotografía, son collages realizados con imágenes de eclipses solares captadas en el Observatorio Astronómico de Córdoba, Argentina, el lugar en donde se registraron las primeras imágenes del espacio en el cono sur. Koan, Espectros, 2016 La serie Espectros explora nuevas formas de representación a partir del registro de líneas espectrales, (radiaciones visibles de intensidad demasiado baja para ser percibidas por el ojo humano). El uso de la geometría está ligado con una grafía sobre lo sagrado, pues el artista considera que la representación de algunos de estos elementos invisibles está relacionada con un orden divino, ya que persiguen revelar las posibles esencias del universo. Koan, Spectrum, 2016 The “Spectrum” series explores new forms of representation from the register of spectral lines (visible radiations of too low an intensity to be perceived by the human eye). The use of geometry is bound to a graphical symbol about the sacred. The artist considers that the representation of some of these invisible elements is related to a divine order, since they seek to reveal the possible essences of the universe. Serie Hesiquía En Hesiquia (término empleado en la historia de la espiritualidad monástica que hace referencia al estado de sosiego y silencio del ser, necesario para permanecer con Dios), Luis González Palma retoma imágenes fotográficas creadas por Juan de Jesús Yas, uno de los pioneros en la fotografía guatemalteca de finales del siglo XIX. De estas placas, González Palma elimina digitalmente el registro figurativo (retratos de sacerdotes y de imaginería religiosa), dejando visible tan solo la información producida por las irregularidades en la aplicación de la plata, las huellas del tacto humano y las reacciones químicas ocasionadas por los cambios de temperatura y humedad. Su intención es mostrar el contenido visual de una historia que ha quedado registrada en estas placas a través de los años. Para el artista, estas imágenes reflejan y representan la idea de vacío y el tiempo en un sentido metafísico; el registro de “la nada” como búsqueda espiritual; el documento azaroso de un tiempo vivido, ahora ajeno al contexto de la toma fotográfica misma. In Hesychia (technical term in the history of monastic spirituality, which refers to the state of quietness and silence of the whole being, necessary to remain with God), the Guatemalan author went back to some photographic images created by Juan de Jesús Yas, one of the pioneers in Guatemalan photography by the end of the nineteenth century. He digitally removed the figurative register from these plates (portraits of priests and religious imagery), leaving only the information produced by irregularities in the application of silver, the traces of human touch, and the chemical reactions produced by changes in temperature and humidity. His intention is to show the visual content of an entire history that has remained recorded on these plates through the years, highlighting the remaining traces of their relationship with the environment and the persons that were in contact with them. For him, these images reflect and represent the idea of emptiness and time in a metaphysical sense. Images that make other types of register relevant: “the void” as spiritual search; a space that is inhabited by conscience; the random document of a past experience that is alien to the shot itself; the register of their existence through a time space of about a hundred years that allowed for remaining prints of a sum of fortuitous events that have affected its surface for different causes, human as well as natural, loading them with a visual alphabet full of a tense calm.

Located in the heart of Madrid, Blanca Berlin maintains a generous selection of photographs, promoting and presenting both established and emerging international artists to the art market in Spain and abroad. Additionally, the gallery has a wide selection of images which may be viewed in the many changing exhibitions programmed annually, as well as on the gallery’s website. The gallery, opened since 2007 and directed by Blanca Berlín, also takes part in main international art fairs.
