Choosing the right purchase system Lewmar® manufactures a diverse range of blocks to suit all marine applications. This guide aims to help you to choose the best purchase system and the appropriate Lewmar® products to suit your application. Why do we need purchase systems? As a guide, the average person can: • Pull vertically down a force equivalent to their body weight (for a short period) • When fully braced, pull intermittently sideways with one hand to 25kg and with two hands to 50kg • Adjust control lines frequently loaded to 25kg • Exert 15kg single-handed and 25kg doublehanded on a winch handle Human force can be multiplied through a purchase system made up of block systems and/or winches, enabling comfortable operation of high-loaded sailboat controls.

Designed and engineered for speed, efficiency and superior handling, the Synchro range of blocks combine a free spin bearing with a self aligning head to reduce friction and increase efficiency. Each component is designed to perfectly synchronise with the movement of the rope to provide smooth and efficient transfer of power with reduced rope wear.

Lewmar® Blocks - Racing

Designed and manufactured utilising monocoque construction techniques to produce a quality block range with a high strength to low weight ratio, in sizes ranging from 60mm to 155mm. Radiused alloy cheeks with flush fixings provide extreme durability while the composite sheaves feature Delrin side thrust balls to reduce friction under load. For high load blocks of 80mm and above Torlon rollers are employed to further reduce rolling friction. For additional strength and wear resistance ratchet blocks feature alloy ratchet sheaves and recessed ratchet levers on both sides. The three position shackle post provides a range of fixing options while a web attachment model offers extremely high strength to weight ratio, ideal for runner, halyard or mainsheet applications. The Racing range also includes stand-up and foot blocks to suit most vessel applications. With minimal moving parts the variable geometry handle delivers simple, quick and effortless operation while the unique pattern of dominos provides outstanding holding power and clutching whilst remaining gentle on ropes to prevent fray. The Lewmar® clutch is an excellent choice for high load applications such as Genoa, spinnaker and asymmetric halyards (refer to selection guide) while also ideal for low load applications such as reefing points, topping lifts and outhaul lines on larger vessels.
