Our performance line of snowshoes is developed specially for the following types of outdoor activities:
• ALL-MOUNTAIN – Mountain terrains. Advanced hikers and backcountry enthusiasts. Snowshoes that are made with climbing style crampons and rugged bindings.
• DAY HIKING – Rolling terrains. Best for hikers and backpackers. Designed for intermediate terrains and are suitable for most conditions.
• RUNNING – Flat terrains. Best for runners or race walkers. Developed to support a runner’s stride over the snow.
• RECREATIONAL – Flat terrains. Perfect for beginners. Designed for easy walking and ideal for families.
SNOWSHOE SIZING
To choose the right size snowshoe, there are two key elements to consider: LOAD and CONDITIONS.
CONDITIONS are categorized by a couple of factors.
• POWDERY SNOW – Powdery, dry snow calls for a longer length snowshoe with more surface area to keep the shoe afloat. These conditions may be present in fresh deep snow or in untracked backcountry areas.
• WET OR COMPACT – WET OR COMPACT SNOW NECESSITATES A SHORTER LENGTH SNOWSHOE. The compacted snow does not require a large surface area to keep the snowshoe afloat. These conditions may be present on groomed, higher trafficked recreational outdoor areas, or snow that has had time to settle.
LOAD is determined by your body weight and the weight of the backpack or belongings you’re carrying. The longer the snowshoe, the more surface area it has in contact with the snow; therefore, allowing the snowshoe to provide more flotation (ability to keep you from sinking in the snow) in deeper powdery, dry snow conditions.

For example, if you are 145 lbs with a 5 lbs bag hiking on compact snow, an 8 in x 21 in is best suited for you. However, if you’re 145 lbs with a 5 lb bag walking on a untracked backcountry, the shoe size you’ll need is 8 x 25.

FRAMES
Frames come in various shapes and materials. Aluminum frames are lightweight, strong, and ergonomically designed to aid the user’s stride as well as providing excellent foundation for flotation. Composite children’s snowshoes feature a hard plastic material that forms the frame and deck in one single piece. These hard plastic snowshoes are lightweight and durable.

DECKS
Snowshoe decking can be made of various components like plastic, coated nylon, PE or other synthetic materials. We offer two decks: one made from HDPE (high density polyethylene) and the other Tech Weave (coated nylon fabric); lightweight, soft and durable. HDPE is our thickest and most durable decking option.

BINDINGS
Securing your foot on your snowshoe is achieved with multiple closure types: some are fast and some are smart! Our snowshoe systems range from dials that offer an infinite tension choice to a simple and secure, one-pull closure.

Yukon Charlie’s boasts a wide range of axle types that have been specifically paired with the binding to provide you with the support and performance you need. The terrain you choose to venture impacts the type of axle needed. For inclines, you require more rotation in your step ascending/descending slopes. On flatter terrains, your feet require less movement to keep your stride. And, on hard/icy surfaces, you require a softer foot plant.

CRAMPONS
Snowshoes feature teeth, similar to cleats, called crampons. These “metal teeth” help you grip the snow as you hike and walk. Crampons are available in various shapes and sizes. These are crucial to help you maintain a sure grip on the terrain or surface you choose to venture on:

HEEL LIFTS
Heel lifts add an additional lift to your heel in the up position, lessening the stress on your feet and calves, adding additional comfort while conserving energy on steep uphill ascent. When not in use, they are retractable and tuck neatly away around the molded heel plate.

TREKKING POLES
Trekking poles are essential equipment for all outdoor enthusiasts. They offer enhanced stability and support on a multitude of terrains.
