You might have seen our flowers at a wedding you attended or you have seen our wedding posts on social media or some venues we work with would have recommended us.

We understand that this is a one-off exercise for you but don’t worry, we have a lot of experience in providing wedding flowers for your wedding and are happy to help.

So whether you are having the dream wedding of the season or just nipping to the registry office, this magazine will provide you with all the information you need.

Next year is predicted to be a busy wedding season so if you are planning a 2024 or 2025 wedding please carry on reading! We welcome all kinds of weddings here at Rose & Mary and we always do our best to create the wedding flowers that would fit your wedding wishes.

THE FLOWERS YOU NEED

For a quick guide to understanding what flowers you might need we have broken down the wedding flowers in 3 categories: bridal flowers, ceremony flowers and reception flowers. In this section we will also give you some handy tips on how to get the most out of your floral budget.

Bridal flowers These are the personal flowers carried by the bridal or grooms party. These flowers will feature most in your photograph for everlasting memories so best not to skimp on these. We will suggest the best flowers the season has to offer in your chosen colour scheme and if you would like to incorporate special request flowers for sentimental reasons we can discuss this during a consultation.

1 Wedding bouquet

The star of thw show in this category is obviously going to be your wedding bouquet. Our ‘house style’ is a round and messy bouquet, but there are variations such as cascading designs, round and tight or deconstructed/boho style bouquets. Let us know what you would prefer and what goes best with your frame and the shape and style of your dress. If the main flowers are buttonholes or leis, just let us know.

2 Bridesmaids flowers

Bridesmaids bouquets usually have the same flowers as the bridal bouquet but are smaller. We can add or take away flowers to compliment the bridesmaids dresses or do a whole different style and colour, up to you! The bridesmaids bouquets are roughly half the size and cost of the bridal bouquet. Lots of bridesmaids will increase the cost of your wedding flowers but you can get creative and find a place for them in a short vase or a pint glass and use them to decorate cocktail tables on the patio, the bar area or cake table.

3 Flower girls flowers

Children as part of the wedding party also need flowers and depending on age we can advise to use a small posy, a flower wand or a crown, or something else for their hair.

4 Buttonholes and Corsages

For the menfolk we can do a buttonhole. Usually it’s the groom and groom’s men or the dads but who gets to adorn their lapel with flowers is totally up to you! Ladies wear Corsages rather than buttonholes.

Ceremony flowers Are you getting married at a civil ceremony or a church? You can decorate these spaces with flowers to add a personal touch.

Sometimes ceremony spaces are so gorgeous that there is absolutely no need for flowers. However big and bold statement pieces can totally transform a ceremony venue. Ceremony flowers will forever be visible in your wedding photos, so it’s worth splashing out for.

The venue dectates We can discuss what type of ceremony flowers you need during the consultation. Below is a list of options of ceremony flowers. Your venue will dictate what flowers would suit best; for instance there might be a big fireplace or a gazebo that needs decorating.

Floral focal points For flowers at the ceremony venue, one or two bigger florals as focal points work better than little arrangements spread out all over the place. Also entrance flowers can really set off the vibe of your wedding (first impressions!) and would make a great back drop for photos.

Floral arrangements can be moved If the ceremony and the reception are held at the same venue there is a big difference in the overall cost of the wedding flowers as floral arrangements can be moved from the ceremony to the reception without a lot of hassle. If you are planning an outdoor ceremony it is always wise to think of an indoor plan too in case of bad weather.

Reception flowers Flowers can really enhance your wedding reception and provide a stunning focal point during the wedding breaksfast.

The cost of flowers for the reception can vary hugely but on the whole it does depend on how many guests are coming and how many tables need to be decorated. Are you having a top table and various guest tables, or is it a free flowing kind of reception?

Guest Table flowers Usually the design of the guest table flowers depends on the size and style of the venue and the formality of the wedding breakfast. Most often we create a low table arrangement or a cluster of bud vases that can be gifted away at the end of the wedding to your guests. Sometimes we do big elevated arrangements at the tables for a total wow factor, it all depends on what you would like, your budget and whatever works best in the surroundings of the venue. We can suggest ways to re-purpose florals from the ceremony to the reception space to reduce the cost of your budget.

A cluster of bud vases to gift to your guest afterwards

Adding candles We can advise you on adding candles or other items to go with the flowers. Please check the ‘flame policy’ at the venue before buying candles and take the overall budget per table into account.

Sometimes a larger arrangement per table looks much better and is more cost effective then a small floral arrangement with lots of items to fill out the space on the table. Happy to advise you on the table flowers during a consultation.

COSTS If you are planning to set a budget for your wedding flowers please don’t just pick a random amount without checking with your florist first.

Lots of couples we meet have set a budget of £1000 or £1500 without taking into consideration of what type of venue they’ve booked and which flowers they want.

Weddings big and small The members of your biral party, the type of ceremony space and the amount of tables at the reception all determine how much money you will need to spend, so it’s best to check with your florist first before setting a budget.

The cost of your wedding flowers will go up if you are having lots of bridesmaids or adding big statement florals to the ceremony.

Getting inspiration from Pinterest and other socials is great but make sure the inspiration and budget are on the same level. We often get shown images of very high end weddings with huge statement florals while given a very small budget to work with which can be very frustrating.

This is our average The average spend of wedding flowers with Rose&Mary is £2500-£3500 per wedding.

Some couples spend a lot more while others spend a lot less. It does depend on your personal choices.

choose a wedding date when 1 Don’t flowers are expensive It’s very romantic to get married on Valentines Day but the cost of the flowers will be sky high. The same goes for Mother’s day (not just in the UK but international Mother’s Day as well) and around Christmas and New Year. Most flowers we use go through the Dutch auction system and it is a supply-and-demand kind of thing. If demand for flowers is high, the flowers price will rise.

2 Choose seasonal flowers

Seasonal flowers are the best quality and the best value for money. It’s like eating a strawberry in the middle of winter; expensive and not very tasty. If you insist on peonies or lily of the valley please find out when the best time is to get married to avoid disappointment.

We have 4 tips to reduce the costs of wedding flowers

larger flowers 3 Choose and lots of foliages A Hydrangea or dinner plate Dahlia might be expensive but you only need a few stems to fill a vase. Small filler flowers can sometimes cost the same as bigger focal flowers.

Foliages isn’t always green and can compliment flowers beautifully and is a very cost effective way of filling up your wedding flowers, although beautiful foliage is just as expensive as flowers. Eucalyptus for instance is not a cheap foliage!

We typically use around 30% foliage in our wedding work, depending on the wishes of the bride or groom. There are some stunning foliage arrangements out there where the foliage is more dominant than the flowers, but there is a thin line between too much greenery and not enough flowers as the flowers will look a bit lost.

flowers from ceremony 4 Moving to the reception Want to do a bit of clever recycling? You can easily move the ceremony table arrangement onto the top table after the ceremony is over so you are not ordering flowers for both. Pew ends can be created in little jam jars that can decorate the cocktail tables after the ceremony. And bridesmaids bouquets can be popped in a short vase after the ceremony is over as extra decorations in the reception venue.

This does depend on how easy it is to move the florals and who will be responsible for that, we can discuss this during a consultation. The fee for the set up and delivery of the flowers on the day will increase quite a lot if we have to flip the flowers from the ceremony to the reception, so it’s not always cost effective.

COLOUR SCHEMES We are always happy to work within your chosen colour scheme with the best of what the season has to offer. Most brides are happy to leave the flower choices to us but if you have a special request of using a specific flower we will always do our best to get what you want.

Working with one colour pallet For a classic look, keep things simple.

- In pale tones; a classic white and green, or a nude pallet in blush creams and pale apricot.

- In mid tones; pastels such as pink, peach and cream, or lilacs and bleus.

- In bright tones; reds, purples and blues, or corals reds and oranges.

Choose contrast The other option is working with contrast. By using shades with an different intensity to give that ‘pop’ of colour.

- A nude palette with a pop of raspberry or burgundy.

- Cool blues with warmer tones of peach and pink.

- Or dark purples and reds with a pop of bright orange.

Matching shades to other materials We are happy to work in a palette that would compliment the colour of other bridal features, such as the bridesmaids dresses, groom ties, prints on invites, dinner service, balloons etc. Trying to match flowers in the exact shade to other materials is a really bad idea that never really works.

Seasonal luxury flowers with all the bells and whistles To compare the difference between basic, standard and lush is like comparing a minute steak, a sirloin steak and a fillet steak (sorry for my veggie friends). Or an ice cream cone with 3 scoops , 5 scoops with a dollop of cream or 10 scoops with cream, sauce, sprinkles, a flake and a little paper umbrella with a cherry on top.

6 STEPS TO GET THE

WEDDING FLOWERS OF YOUR DREAMS

If you want to book us to flower your wedding there are a few steps to follow.

In the estimate we will show you plenty of examples of previous work, flowers and the glassware or plinths we have in stock.

1: Check the date

4: Make the booking

Once you have read all the information on the previous pages and you have checked the price list, the most important thing to do is to check to see if your date is still available with us. We can only book one wedding a day and once the date is booked we take this day out of diary and are unable to help other couples. We flower an average of 60 wedding a year and most brides book a year in advance. Last minute enquiries are welcome but availability might be limited.

If you feel you are happy with the estimate and our style of floristery, you can make a booking. A booking fee (which is non-refundable) needs to be paid to secure the date. This is usually a third of the first estimate and will be deducted from the final bill. A receipt and confirmation will be send to you confirming Rose&Mary as your florist and we will block your date in our diary so no other couple can book on that day. The confirmation will also state our T&C’s which you will have to agree with.

We also need to have a chat first. You can pop round to the studio or we can have a phone call or a short zoom session if thats more convenient.

During the consultation we can talk about what you would need or want at your chosen venue, and the colour scheme and flower choices. We will advise you on how to get the most out of your budget and where flowers will have most impact in the space provided.

A second consultation will be booked 6-8 weeks before your big day where we will confirm all the plans. If there are any changes to the number of bridesmaids or buttonholes or if the venue or colour scheme has changed that is not a problem.

We will discuss all the changes during the final consultation and amend the quote accordingly.

We will also discuss the timings of flower drop off, set up and breakdown.

3: Get an estimate

6: Final balance and payment

We will walk you through the price list and give you an estimated cost during the consultation.

During the first consultation the price list will work more as a menu than a set quote, at this stage it’s more important to book your florist than the actual flowers, there’s usually plenty of time to finalise the plans once you know who rsvped and once the bridesmaids dresses, ties and props have been ordered.

The final balance for the flowers needs to be paid 4 weeks before the wedding.
