11th annual eight-day, 187-kilometre journey June 20 from Konni Lake and arrived in Williams Lake just in time for the start of the first rodeo performance Thursday evening. Another group, the Tl’etinqox Horse and Bike Riders, left the community of Tl’etinqox (Anaham) Saturday, June 22 and arrived in Williams Lake Wednesday afternoon via Highway 20. They consisted of a mix of riders from Yunesit’in
(Stone), Tl’esqox (Toosey), Xeni Gwet’in (Nemiah) and Tl’etinqox (Anaham) and set up camp at the RC Cotton Site once in town. For the first time ever, members of the ?Esdilagh First Nation and Alexandria community members are also reviving the tradition by making the journey to the Stampede via horse and wagon. This group travelled the West Fraser Road, crossing the Fraser River at the
historic Rudy Johnson Bridge and came into town on the Old Soda Creek Road, and Mackenzie Avenue. All three groups camped each night, often connecting with local ranchers along the way, and all are expected to be a part of the Daybreak Rotary Stampede Parade Saturday. Congratulations to all for making the journey safely and welcome to the 93rd Annual Williams Lake Stampede.
