15,933 low-income children and families were supported through the City’s Leisure Access Program for recreation activities.

 New this year, the City presented the Surrey Social Innovation Awards recognizing achievements committed to building a better Surrey through community engagement and innovation.

 Use of technology and new software enabled the City to proactively map and reach out to nearly 775 homes and 600 businesses in Bridgeview that were potentially subject to the Fraser River flooding.

 In 2017, the Seniors Connector Program, which is delivered by volunteers who contributed 156 hours of their time, has connected with 1,125 people.

 The City in collaboration with the Province commissioned temporary housing to help house homeless individuals on 135A Street. In June

2018, the City moved over 210 homeless individuals living on 135A Street into 160 transitional accommodation units and additional shelter spots where they will receive 24/7 support. This interim solution will be augmented by 250 more long-term supportive housing.

BUSINESS & INNOVATION  Surrey and Vancouver are finalists in the $50 Million Federal Smart Cities Challenge. The statement jointly submitted by the two cities identifies two collision-free corridors that will be equipped with smart mobility solutions related to autonomous shuttles, smart mobility infrastructure, advanced data analytics, and enhanced user experience.
