Parade Entertainment - Best line up ever By Leah Blain CONTRIBUTOR

This year, in honor of Canada 150 and the Fair’s 120th anniversary, the Salmon Arm Fair will be offering the best line up of entertainment yet. “We are really showcasing great BC talent,” says Lori Risling. “We have the most variety we’ve ever had and we’re showcasing the most award-winning artists we’ve ever had.” New to the Main Stage is Dirt Road Opera. This incredible trio consists of Barry Mathers, Rachel Mat-

kin and Jim Ryan, all highly talented musicians. Mathers and Ryan, as members of the Cruzeros, enjoyed Canadian and international success, touring BC, Mexico and Europe. They have received several BC Country Music Association Awards. Rachel Matkin started her career singing in her family band. At the age of 14 she won the BCCMA Junior Vocalist competition. She went on to have a successful solo career in Canada and her album, Living Beyond Our Dreams, was voted

Fairgrounds

Album of the Year at the BCCMA’s. “These three talents have a unique style of folk-roots music,” says Risling. “You will love their eclectic mix of music and wonderful harmonies.” And Salmon Arm’s Jesse Mast will be playing Friday night. He was a Shuswap Idol first place winner, as well as the People’s Choice winner when he was 15 years old. Now he is signed by Sony Music Canada and he has toured with Gord Bamford. Always a favorite at the Salmon Arm Fair is Adam Fitzpatrick with his tribute to Elvis Presley. Fitzpatrick is an international, multiaward winning Elvis Presley Tribute Artist. Fitzpatrick portrays Elvis with his high energy moves of the 50’s as well as his dynamic intensity (and black leather suit!) of the 60’s. This will be capped with the famous jumpsuit and Elvis’ charisma of the 70’s! “Adam is in high demand and his shows constantly sell out so Salmon Arm is extremely fortunate to have him perform at our fair once again,” says Risling. Another returning act and longtime favorite is Dale Seaman and Highway 97. Seaman

was the winner of the Okanagan Star Search in 2005 and has performed at the Merritt Mountain Music Festival. His vocal versatility will have you enjoying a great variety of country music. Joining Seaman is Betty Anne Northup and Lawrence Bourgeois. Northup’s solid vocals and keyboard playing and Bourgeois’ vocals and superb instrumentation on guitar and fiddle are sure to get people clapping, and dancing. In addition to these acts, the Salmon Arm Fair will feature regular favorites such as dance troupes Just For Kicks and Shuswap Dance Centre. Returning for a second year is the talented musical duo of Blu & Kelly Hopkins. They draw fans in with their brand of acoustic folk and bluegrass music as well as their engaging humor and charisma. Also at the fair to

entertain are local favorites Barn Cats and Seal Scull Hammer. Interspersed throughout the weekend will be performances by previous Shuswap Idol contestants, in a segment titled ‘Shuswap Shines’.
