Another successful Round the Mountain Perfect weather, happy competitors C AROLYN GR ANT Bulletin Editor

The Round the Mountain Festival has seen all kinds of weather in its short life, from floods to torrential rain to hail, so to have perfect conditions this past Sunday was a nice gift. “The weather turned out perfect, 21 degrees, not too hot, no thunder or hail,” said event organizer Jim Webster. With temperatures forecast to soar into the high thirties this weekend, Webster is also glad that they decided not to push back the dates, which had been under consideration at one point.

This year’s event had record registration numbers, and although, like every year, some didn’t show up, Webster estimates there were some 450 participants. “It was our biggest yet. It felt bigger. Lots of people came up from town. “There are always a few glitches behind the scenes, but most people don’t see them. All in all everyone had a lot of fun and there were no major crashes or injuries. “It was a great event as usual and people are already talking about next year. I think I need a week to rest though.” Full results from Round the Mountain are available at dailybulletin.ca and roundthemountain.ca

tures. When the proponents, Rod and Tamara Duggan presented to Council in April they said that the storefront would be “upscale and clinical”. However, granting a business license was not as simple as one might think, because Council had to override its own bylaw to do so. “Staff was obligated to reject the business license application because it didn’t meet the bylaw for complying with federal regulations,” McCormick said. “But Council can override that bylaw.” And that is what Council did after a lengthy discussion, focusing mainly on the implications of allowing such a business in Kimberley. The vote was unanimous in favour. See COUNCIL, page 3

CLASS OF 2015

Grads on parade C AROLYN GR ANT Bulletin Editor

This weekend Selkirk’s Class of 2015 celebrates graduation, with Prom and Dry Grad on Friday and the ceremony on Saturday at the Civic Centre, 3 p.m. One of Kimberley’s traditions is the gathering of grads at Cominco Gardens for pictures and an opportunity to show off the prom finery. In the past couple of years a new tradition has begun — the grad parade through the Platzl, and a chairlift ride up Northstar Mountain. For those who’d like

to catch a look at the class of 2015 in the Platzl, the plan is for students to gather near the Kimberley Public Library at 3 p.m. They will march through the Platzl to the Bean Tree then back up Deer Park Avenue. They will then gather at the gazebo for photos, and a word from Mayor Don McCormick. If you do plan to attend the Platzl parade, please bring a folding chair. Grads will then go up to Cominco Gardens for more photos, then the chairlift ride and then enjoy their prom.
