Pick the route now, figure out the details later. That was the decision by Port Coquitlam city council Monday as it drew its line for the future Fremont Connector. The controversial alignment for the two-lane road that will one day link Coquitlam’s Burke Mountain with Lougheed Highway in PoCo will follow — for the most part — Devon Road, Prairie Avenue and Burns Road. In selecting the Devon route — which went against city planning and engineering managers’ wishes as well as Coquitlam’s — PoCo councillors made clear they wanted as little impact to the residents in the Sun Valley neighbourhood, especially those living on St. Thomas Street, west of the BC Hydro power lines. Coquitlam homeowners will pay 2.71% more in property tax this year after council voted unanimously Monday to adopt its fiveyear financial plan. The average Coquitlam homeowner will pay $2,982 this year, approximately $73
more than last year. The increase includes $48 in property tax, $4 for water rates, $13 in sewer and drainage rates and $8 in solid waste charges. Part of the increase will be used to fund the hiring of six RCMP officers at a cost of $891,000.

The tunnel boring machine, which is currently under Clarke Road and Seaview Drive in Port Moody, is making its way uphill towards the south portal at Como Lake Avenue.
