time, and often overtime, while raising a family.” As she continued to work part-time in the corporate world, she decided to take a night school course in basic photography. “Near the end of the class, my instructor, Ken Pugh decided that I was doing quite well and asked me if I would be interested in apprenticing with him doing wedding photography,” says Graham, who took him up on the offer. She has now photographed more than 100 weddings, families, events, and fundraisers, and received a prestigious Arty Award in 2014 from the Abbotsford Art Council for “Outstanding Artist in the Visual Arts” 2-dimensional category. “I’m nearing 65 years old and I am still really enjoying what I am doing for work and for the community,” says Graham. “I love capturing memories
Davina Graham volunteers for a long list of community organizations and fundraisers. with beautiful images, including emotion when appropriate, and with events, the photos tell a story.” Growing up on a dairy farm on Sumas Prairie, Graham says she spent long hours doing chores and rarely had any time to slow down and enjoy the world around her. “Life flies by so fast, so spare time to smell the roses,” she says. “Your health and life’s enjoyment will pass you by if you have your nose to the grindstone all the time; taking time for yourself is very necessary.” That is exactly what photography
has allowed her to do – capture every moment and enjoy it. Graham also does volunteer photography for a long list of community organizations and fundraisers including MSA Museum, Trethewey House, United Way, the Envision Concert in the Park and Coffee House series for 2013 & 2014, Women’s Resource Society, Big Brothers and Shoppers Drug Mart make-up event fundraisers for breast cancer. She also works for Marathon Photos and shoots the Sun Run and Run for Water.
