IH injects hospital with $1 million-plus Monica Lamb-Yorski Staff Writer More than $1.5 million will be spent improving hospitals in Williams Lake and 100 Mile House in the next year. Last Friday at its regular meeting in Williams Lake the Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Hospital District board unanimously approved a request from Interior Health to cover 40 per cent or $665,200 of the total costs of the
projects’ $1,663,000. “These requests we’ve received from Interior Health are more than the sum total of all the requests we’ve had from both health authorities in this region for last year,” said John Massier, who was re-elected CCRHD chair Friday. “It’s nice to see that they are freeing up capital dollars to come back in our region to get some much-needed items in our health care facilities.” In a report to the board, chief
financial officer Scott Reid said there are sufficient funds available within the CCRHD budget and financial plan to accommodate IH’s requests. Investments at CMH will include $235,000 in renovations to a secure room, $120,000 for a security system and door locking in the maternity unit, $80,000 for a telephone system upgrade and the most expensive item, an estimated $950,000 to replace the 2002 radiographic fluoroscopic

system. For its share, the 100 Mile House Hospital will receive a general radiographic system worth $278,000. Re-elected CCRHD vice-chair Margo Wagner said renovation of the 15-year-old secure room at CMH is part of a commitment made by IH last November that mental health services in the hospital be available 24 hours a day. “This is a huge step forward,” Wagner said. “It will provide safety to both patients and staff.”
