Quesnel Community Foundation has grants to give ANNIE GALLANT Observer Reporter It’s time once again for local charitable organizations to make their requests known to the Quesnel Community Foundation (QCF.) The latest funding cycle began in November and extends to Jan. 16, 2015 when all requests must be in the hands of the Foundation. The QCF was established in 2001 and exists to meet the needs of the community through the growth and management
of permanent endowment funds. The goal is to use the income generated to promote the well being of the community by providing grants to charitable organizations. In 2014, QCF handed out $57,000 including grants and scholarships and board member Bob Lebeck said they hope to give out at least that much in 2015. A nine-member board of directors is responsible for the overall policies and practices of the Foundation and board members

join with community members on the Grants Committee to consider applications for funding. Grants and scholarships are given to local projects. The local area is defined as west to Nazko, east to Wells/Barkerville, north to Hixon and south to McLeese Lake. If your organization and project fall within these boundaries the first step is to submit a Letter of Intent to determine basic eligibility and this must be done by Jan. 16, 2015. The forms for your Letter
of Intent can be found on the website, www.quesnelfoundation.ca under How to Receive Grants and must be submitted electronically before the deadline of Jan. 16, 2015. If your group needs assistance contact Cathy Briggs, 250-747-1739. The second stage requires the submission of a more detailed formal grant application which is sent to groups who qualify once all Letters of Intent have been reviewed. The website is very comprehensive and provides
details on what sort of projects are likely to be approved, how the decision is made regarding granting and other details pertinent to the process. After a grant is awarded, donees are expected to follow a specific list of performance and management procedures. Monitoring of projects will be performed by the Foundation to ensure funds are used appropriately. Projects must be completed by Oct. 31 of the calendar year. Projects that cannot be completed must

apply for an extension. If for any reason the project cannot be completed, all grant monies must be returned to QCF. “The Grant Committee evaluates each project for its impact on the community,” Lebeck said. “The amount granted will depend on how many applications are received and how much money is available for the given grant cycle.” If you have questions not covered by the website information, e-mail qcf@ shaw.ca.
