MP steps into PoMo civic race Donnelly backs five for council Sarah Payne

The Tri-CiTy News

Fin Donnelly, the NDP MP for New WestminsterCoquitlam, is well known for swimming the Fraser River. But now, he’s dipping his toe into the waters of Port Moody politics. In a glossy brochure mailed to an unknown number of PoMo residents, Donnelly addresses the leaflet “Dear Neighbour,” adding that “we have an important choice to make” in the Nov. 15 civic election. He goes on to endorse Gaetan Royer for mayor as well as council candidates incumbents Rick Glumac and Zoe Royer, and challengers Barbara Junker and Anne Ladouceur and Zoe Royer.

NDP MP FIN DONNELLY Donnelly’s riding covers only part of Port Moody — bisecting Inlet Centre, it extends west on the south shore of Burrard Inlet — and he does not live in Port Moody. His home is in Coquitlam, where he was also a city councillor from 2002 until he left partway through his third term to run for federal politics in 2009. see ‘IMPORTANT’, page A7

A sink hole that opened up on top of the Evergreen Line tunnel in Port Moody Monday afternoon is being repaired and does not pose a risk to public safety, according to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. The hole, which measured about 2 m by 3 m, developed in the Chateau Place parking lot as Evergreen Line crews were changing the cutter head tools on the tunnel boring machine. An air pocket developed as material came into the cutter chamber and, although crews filled

part of the air pocket from within the tunnel, part of it made its way to the surface. The sink hole formed in an area that was fenced off and the public was not at risk, a ministry spokesperson said. It was filled immediately and additional fill was added Tuesday morning. Nothing else in the area was damaged and the parking lot pavement will be replaced. Crews will also conduct additional surveying until the tunnel boring machine is advanced. spayne@tricitynews.com @SPayneTC
