Tech a big part of new school By Diane Strandberg THE TRI-CITY NEWS
A new high-tech middle school opened in Anmore Monday the old fashioned way, with the ringing of brass school bells. As clouds threatened rain, 555 Grade 6, 7 and 8 students were welcomed back to school with principals — current and retired — ringing bells that might have been used in the days of the one-room school house. Eagle Mountain middle is a far cry from those tiny schools of the distant past. Classrooms are equipped with specially made project tables as well as stools with cushions that can be moved for the best viewing spot. Floor-to-ceiling whiteboards for brainstorming have been mounted in the hallway and each class is connected to the internet. see EAGLE, page A3

It’s brand new — and not fully finished — and Eagle Mountain middle school in Anmore opened its doors for the first time on Monday to more than 500 students, whose classrooms look out onto a stunning mountain vista. Eagle Mountain is located next to Heritage Woods secondary school, which is located across the border in Port Moody.
Arrest injury prompts independent inquiry VPD makes bust in PM after Richmond robbery By Sarah Payne THE TRI-CITY NEWS
B.C.’s Independent Investigations Office is looking for witnesses to an incident involving Vancouver cops in Port Moody last week, when a suspected armed robber suffered a fractured jaw
while being arrested. While the arrest happened in PoMo and the officers were from Vancouver, the action started in Richmond on the afternoon of Sept. 16, when three masked men, armed with a shotgun, attempted to get into Wonderland Jewellery at Aberdeen Centre in Richmond. When they were unable to get into the store, they fled to a waiting stolen Jeep
Cherokee that was driven by a fourth suspect, according to the Vancouver Police Department. The stolen Jeep was later abandoned elsewhere in Richmond, where the four suspects then got into a stolen Ford F-350 pick-up truck and drove it to Burnaby. They dumped the truck, hopped into another stolen Jeep and drove to Port Moody, where the group attempted to steal two
more cars on Cecile Drive before running away. VPD’s emergency response team and three canine units began to track the suspects as they jumped a fence in hopes of evading arrest, police said. All four were eventually arrested in Port Moody and investigators recovered a shotgun and ammunition. see ONE OF, page A5
