A Coquitlam granny puts that [bleep] on everything: page 12

School’s likely in Monday Entry for kindergarten students may vary from school to school By Sarah Payne THE TRI-CITY NEWS

Does this bear know summer’s almost over? Coquitlam resident Colin Clasen shared this wonderful, unique photo of a blissed-out bear in the waning days of summer. Here’s how he tells the tale of the photo, which he took with a telephoto lens: “This is an unusual pose of a black bear beside a blueberry field on the north side of Deboville Slough. It was taken two days ago, on Sunday, September 14th. I had been standing on the dike trail with my friend Barb Coble, photographing this bear in the blueberry field for about 15 minutes. It was close to noon and getting quite hot. The bear then squeezed under the barbwire fence, to cool off in the adjacent grass- and water-filled ditch. For about 10 minutes, it just sat upright, completely still, facing into the sun with its eyes closed, seemingly in bliss and totally oblivious to the rest of the world. Neither one of us had ever seen a bear in a pose like this before. After that, it went back into the blueberry field and disappeared.”

As parents and students waited to see how B.C.’s public school teachers voted on a tentative deal to end their strike yesterday, School District 43 is offering kindergarten families some details on what they may be able to expect next week. Superintendent Tom Grant said if teachers ratified the deal on Thursday (the results won’t be known until after The Tri-City News’ print deadline but watch tricitynews.com for details) schools will be open Monday. “If it’s ratified, we will have to figure out with the teachers’ [union] local how to get schools ready [Friday],” Grant
