The annual North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Association’s Ambassador Coronation took place to a packed house in the Barriere Lion’s Hall on Aug. 22. The candidates and current reigning royalty presented a short dance program, followed by impromptu questions to the candidates, and an evening gown presentation; all while the three official judges tallied up their scores and added them to previous scoring taken throughout the year. Ambassador Program coordinator Laura Mairs had the honour of announcing the results; Miss Stamer Logging Jillian McInnes (centre), will wear the Ambassador Crown for the 2014/2015 season, with her two Vice-Ambassadors (l-r) Miss Armour Mt. Office Services Annie Butcher, and Miss Catholic Women’s League Lee Dionne. The new royalty will be officially opening the NT Fall Fair this Saturday in the rodeo arena at 12 noon. Attendees at the Interior Savings Moonlight Movie Night in Barriere had a great time but never did get to see the movie.
Approximately 200 people turned out to enjoy the Interior Savings Moonlight Movie Night at the Barriere Ball Park on Aug. 11. This was the eighth annual event that Interior Savings has sponsored in support of youth initiatives in Barriere. This year Youth Soccer in Barriere was the recipients of all funds raised. Spectators seemed to be greatly enjoying all the activities provided;
games, raffles and all with great community ambiance and socialization. However, they were not prepared for the unplanned adventure that stole the show. Clouds began to gather gradually over the area as dusk arrived, but there was no warning about what was to come. Raffle prizes were handed out, and then spectators got settled onto blankets, lawn chairs or scooters as the featured movie ‘Frozen’ began. Then with a reverberat-
ing crash, thunder, pouring rain and lightening invaded the peaceful gathering. On site volunteer Leslie Stirling, says everyone was running for shelter, and others hurriedly left the grounds. She did note though that no one seemed upset about the sudden change of plans courtesy of Mother Nature, and none were concerned that they had spent money to watch a movie that was “stormed out”. After all, it was all for a good cause.
