The Kelowna fire department will be looking at the furnace room to start their investigation into a fire on Rutland’s Merrifield Road which destroyed a home Monday. Dustin Colledge was driving home from the gym just before noon when he saw a big cloud of smoke, followed by a group of five individuals, and their two dogs, running from the home. “I stopped the car and wanted to know if everybody was OK. Everybody looked like they were OK, so I called 911,” he said. Standing by the side of the street he heard three or four explosions, events he describes as mild popping sounds. “From what I saw it looked like it started near the back balcony or underneath, near the garage…There was a propane tank right next to the fire so, in all likelihood the explosion was the propane tank,” he said. Singing legend still going strong Kathy Michaels STAFF REPORTER
Tickets to Tony Bennett’s two concerts at Mission Hill winery sold out in record time, and it’s no wonder. current, recording with pop stars from every generation that’s come along. His latest collaboration is with pop icon Lady Gaga, set to be released in September.
News of their upcoming jazz album was made public just days before Bennett’s performances in Kelowna, and he wasn’t shy about sharing with the local crowd.
“I dedicate this one to my friend Lady Gaga,” he said. “I just finished a recording with her and I want you to buy it—she needs the money.”
