Kozak awaits sentencing in child pornography case AUTUMN MacDONALD Observer Reporter
A Quesnel man who was charged with accessing and possession of child pornography, is being sentenced Sept. 11 after pleading guilty. Jereme Carl Kozak was arrested June 6 of last year and charged with accessing child pornography, possession of child pornography and possession of child pornography for the purpose of distribution. Kozak had recently moved from Quesnel to Prince George when he was arrested. On the evening of June 6, members of the Prince George RCMP’s General
Duty Section with assistance from the Detachment’s Crime Reduction Team executed a search warrant at a residence on the 400 block of Voyageur Drive in Prince George. The 25-year-old was immediately taken into custody. According to police, the man was actively downloading child pornography as police arrived at the residence. A computer and other evidence was seized. Kozak was released by the court and must abide by strict conditions including no contact with children 16-years-old or under, unless supervised, not to attend parks, pools, school grounds, daycare centres and other places

where children under the age of 16 may be present and he is not allowed Internet access. “The RCMP take crimes against children very seriously,” Cpl. Craig Douglass, spokesperson for the Prince George Detachment, said in a press release. “The children involved in child pornography investigations are victims and end up with lifelong emotional scars. We will do everything we can to bring offenders to justice.” This investigation was initiated by the Provincial Integrated Child Exploitation Team (ICE), a specialized police unit that identifies and investigates those persons responsible for sexual offences
against children.
Break and enters Quesnel RCMP are urging homeowners to lock their doors and windows following a recent string of residential break and enters in our community. Quesnel RCMP are currently investigating a series of residential break and enters which have occurred in the area of Cariboo Field in West Quesnel over the past few weeks. During the past three weeks, suspects have targeted five homes in this area. In the majority of these cases, the homeowner has left a window or door unlocked or insecure. Elec-
tronic equipment including cellular phones, ipads and laptop computers have been stolen during these break ins. “Thieves prey on crimes of opportunity. An open window or unlocked door is an easy target for property criminals,” media spokesperson for the Quesnel RCMP Cst. Krista Vrolyk said. RCMP are asking the public to do their part in preventing property crime by locking their doors and windows during the day and at night. “With the heat that we’ve been experiencing in these summer months, it is natural for residents to want to open windows especially at night to cool their homes,” Vrolyk said.

“An unlocked ground floor window puts you and your family at unnecessary risk. RCMP are urging citizens to secure ground floor windows with a locking device or by wedging an item inside the window tracks which would prevent the window from opening more than just a few inches.” Do your part in preventing crime – lock and secure your windows and report any suspicious activity immediately to police. If you have any information regarding these break ins, call the Quesnel RCMP at 250-992-9211. Or, if you wish to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers at 1-800222-8477.
