School trustees voted unanimously Tuesday night to move to merge all three high schools into one by September 2015. Trustee chair Edie Heinrichs said there’s an “urgent problem,” as students are leaving Mission – 30 in the upcoming school year alone – for other districts because of a lack of courses. There are not enough students at each of the three high schools – Mission Secondary, Heritage Park Secondary and Hatzic Middle Secondary – to staff and offer certain courses, such as calculus. That particular course is offered online and Heinrichs said it’s “better than nothing, but not good enough. Our high schools are spread too thin.” A task force had been established to form the merge plan, but teachers’ job action stymied its progress, which prompted the board on Tuesday to approve hiring a consultant to

“expedite the process,” said Heinrichs. Trustee Carol Hamilton said she voted in favour, but doesn’t support the change in terms of its 2015 timeline. “We haven’t hired a consultant yet. What if the consultant says it can’t be done by 2015?” she said Wednesday morning. Hamilton said the merge is a good idea, “if it’s the right thing to do.” This is a decision that will have ramifications for generations of students. “We need to have a full, unabashed review that includes the public.” The board chair said it’s likely the high school would be placed at either Mission Secondary or Heritage Park, and there would be two middle schools established at the remaining locations. But all options are being considered, including redefining what grades comprise the middle school system. Currently there are 763 students at Hatzic, 725 at Heritage Park and 895 at Mission (plus 128 French Immersion).

Second-degree murder charges A 27-year-old Mission man and a Williams Lake man were arrested and charged in connection with a homicide that occurred in Blind Bay in 2011. Mission’s Jordan Larry Barnes and Williams Lake’s Jeremy Wayne Davis, 24, are each facing one count of second-degree murder, according to the BC RCMP Southeast District major crime unit, which made the announcement Monday. At a press conference in Kelowna, Insp. Terry Kohlhauser said Nicholas Cole Larsen, 24, was shot while travelling in a friend’s vehicle in what appeared to be a targeted attack. Shortly after midnight June 1, 2011, Salmon Arm RCMP members responded to a shots-fired

call in the lakeside community of Blind Bay, located about 20 kilometres west of Salmon Arm. Nearby residents heard the shots and saw two vehicles speeding away. The investigation determined there had been a dispute in Sorrento between two groups of men a couple of hours before the shooting, read a police press release. The vehicle in which Larsen was riding was forced off the road by another vehicle while travelling on Blind Bay Road. An occupant of the suspect vehicle then fired multiple bullets at the other vehicle. Larsen was hit several times and he died a short while later on a nearby friend’s CONTINUED ON 3

Distraction theft suspects charged Two Abbotsford residents have been charged in connection with a distraction theft in Deroche on June 11. Police say two people were approached by a male and a female with a baby who stated they needed water for their vehicle which had broken down. The first incident happened around 5 p.m. but the 72-year-old woman was aware of the scam, which had been reported in the media in recent weeks. She watched the

couple closely and did not give them a chance to take anything. The woman observed the couple leave in a newer model silver Dodge Caravan with no licence plates and called police. About an hour later, Mission RCMP received a call from a 73-year-old Deroche resident who said his wife’s purse had been stolen by a couple with a baby who had come to his house asking for water for their overheated vehicle. Less than 10 minutes

later, police stopped the suspect vehicle on the Murray Street overpass and recovered the stolen items. The van was traced back to a local auto dealer. According to police, the suspects pretended to be interested in buying the vehicle and had taken it out on a test drive. Charged with theft under $5,000 are 47-year-old Donald Quinnell and 21-yearold Krisztina Krakoszki. Both were released with

bail conditions. The oneyear-old child with the couple was referred to the Ministry of Children and Families. “This investigation is preliminary and Mission RCMP believe this type of theft has been committed in multiple communities throughout the Lower Mainland,” said Mission RCMP Staff Sgt. Rob Dixon. “Efforts to coordinate the investigation of other incidents that have been previously reported to police are currently underway.”

Although the arrest can’t dull the pain of losing their son, Shelley and Bo Larsen said news of the arrest brought them the feelings of “peace and elation” for the first time in three years. It did not, however, bring forgiveness for those accused.

“The reckless, calculated decision to murder Nick over something as trivial as a verbal confrontation has forever changed the lives of so many innocent people,” said Shelley Larsen, to her son’s alleged killers. Bo Larsen offered thanks to the investigative team that made the arrests, as well as the community which supported the family as they dealt with their loss. “He was a very sensi-

How ‘essential’ is education?

Hospital emergency departments are essential, no doubt. Ditto police, fire, rescue and ambulance services. But can any part of the education process be deemed an essential service, as the Labour Relations Board determined last week in the provincial government’s so-far failed negotiations with teachers? Make no mistake, having schools behind picket lines is a huge and undeniable inconvenience – for students, for parents, for teachers. So is any delay in receiving marks and transcripts, particularly when deadlines loom for entry to the next level of education. But as essential as education may be in the long term, in the short term it’s doubtful the temporary absence of any part of the educational chain poses a threat to life and limb. And there’s a certain irony, surely, to a government terming provincial exams for

Grades 10-12 and finals marks for grads as an essential service, when the crux of the argument for teachers is that for years education has been treated as anything but. If the service is essential, one might argue it is essential to maintain it and pay for it. The provincial government says the current demands of teachers for what is argued to be parity of pay in other areas is unreasonable and unsupportable in this economy. The teachers, on the other hand, say it is a bill past due – just as concerns about class size and composition could have been addressed in more economically certain times. While the conservative mantra of “one can’t spend what one doesn’t have” sounds reasonable, it’s harder to maintain when, at a moment’s notice, the goal posts can be moved by government fiat. – Black Press

Dedicated volunteer passes Catherine Marcellus was a lifelong learner Carol Aun MISSION RECORD

A dedicated community volunteer, activist and author passed away last week. Catherine Marcellus passed away on June 12 at the age of 91. Cathie, as she was known to her friends, was always thinking about the community, said Diana Muntigl, executive director of Lifetime Learning Centre Society. “She was an inspiration to many people.” Cathie was born in 1923 and moved to Mission in 1947 when her husband, Dr. Jim Marcellus, set up a medical practice here. Cathie was a founding member of LLCS in 1986 and was involved in many programs it offered. She spearheaded health forums in the early 2000s in a

fight to keep services at Mission Memorial Hospital and she was a part of the steering committee that built Heritage Park Centre. She co-authored Mission’s Living Memorials, a book about the history of health care in Mission, which was published in 1992. Cathie earned many awards for her efforts including Mission Citizen of the Year in 1991, Freeman of the City in 1995, and Citizen of the Millennium Award in 2001. She also received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Award in 2002. Cathie was a lifelong learner. She earned a masters degree in English at 62 and was conferred with an honourary doctorate degree from the University of the Fraser Valley in 2010. “We’ve lost another

one of Mission’s greats,” said Coun. Jenny Stevens, who admired Cathie for her work with LLCS. “She’s one of those quiet people that made a huge difference. She was a part of the generation that created Mission. We’re growing Mission, but they created it.” Cathie and her husband, Jim, who passed away in April 2014, left behind the Caitlin rhododendron for Mission residents to admire at Fraser River Heritage Park. The unique flower was created by Jim in the 1950s and named after their granddaughter. It was declared Mission’s official flower in 2007. A memorial service will be held on June 22 at the Best Western from 2 to 4 p.m.

LESSONS FROM OUR FATHERS

One of the many lessons I learned from my father is the value of family. Despite working two jobs most of his adult life, he always made time to be with his family, and went out of his way to do things that brought our family closer together. Often, when there were household difficulties, he would bring us all together in the living room for a family meeting where we would talk about the problems. When we were old enough to start asking about the “birds and the bees,” he made sure that he and my mother were the ones to explain sexuality to us. And, he would always make time to play with us, whether it was football in the street, basketball out back, or staging a homemade play that he had put together for us. All of these, and many more were things that I largely took for granted as a child. Only later did I begin to realize that not all children have such loving and caring fathers. The Mission Heritage Association invites you to Fraser River Heritage Park Wednesday and Friday as the 24th season of the Envision Financial Twilight Concert Series continues. Local favourites Kitchen Sync will be on the Envision Financial Twilight Concert stage June 20 from 7 to 8 p.m. As founder of the Stepping Stone Music Company, Liisa Nessim has been instructing aspiring musicians of the Fraser Valley for years. It was in the Stepping Stone studio that Kitchen Sync was formed, bringing together eclectic local artists to perform original songs and covers. Murphyâ€™s Lagh will be at Fraser River Heritage Park June 25 from 7 to 8 p.m. Belfast-born singer, guitarist, and tin whistle master Damian Brennan joins with local fiddle sensation Jennie Bice to form Murphyâ€™s Lagh, a band well known at local venues and concert series throughout B.C. The District of Mission Property Tax Notices have been mailed out to all property owners. If you have not received your tax notice, please contact the Finance department. It is the property owner’s responsibility to ensure that tax payments and/or home owner grant applications are received by the District by the Wednesday, July 2, 2014 due date.

Here’s your chance to participate in another wonderful community event. Canada Day is in need of enthusiastic volunteers to make the day come alive. Opportunities include setting up, working at an attraction, information booth attendants, volunteer refreshments, parking support, teardown of event, face painting, balloon twisting, fireworks support, post-event clean-up and many other activities. If you would like to work a 3-4 hour shift and contribute to Canada’s Birthday in Mission please call 604-826-0277 to register. A criminal record check form is available at the Fraser River Heritage Park office, 7494 Mary St. or Mission RCMP detachment. It must be submitted in person with one piece of identification. You will be contacted for an orientation meeting to be held in June.

Proctor House is located behind Mission Community Services off 2nd Ave Homeless youth and couch surfing has been of concern to social service and faithbased agencies for the past year and a community group has been meeting monthly exploring ways we can support these high risk youth. With no emergency beds (shelter space) for youth under the age of 19 in Mission, youth too often find themselves in risky and unsafe situations in exchange for shelter. Many youth in Mission may be avoiding dysfunctional home lives such as serious parental mental illness, addiction, domestic violence or even food insecurity. When surveyed, a group of these youth told committee representatives their biggest needs were a place to get a shower, do laundry, access food and talk with non-judgmental adults who could help attach them to much needed health and social services. Mission Community Services has offered the use of Proctor House, a facility located behind MCSS off 2nd Avenue. This building is being offered rent free which leaves only operating costs such as hydro, utilities and resources to be raised. Recent grant success enables us to move forward with this crucial initiative. Our first step is to make Proctor House into a clean, bright and desirable place to welcome and support youth. This community project is a collaborative effort on behalf of a multitude of community partner agencies in Mission. We hope you will join us and offer your skills in sweeping, landscaping, gardening, baking or any other way you would like to contribute. BBQ’d hotdogs will be on site free for all volunteers with a bake sale fundraiser and $2/ hot dog for anyone else who would like to donate. A donations list is also being created, so please let us know if you would like to help out in other ways! Our committee believes that to be successful we must move beyond conversations that blame. Only a community response will enable us to be invested, involved and caring for all our youth, especially for the vulnerable youth who don’t have a place to call home. Mission hospice not closing, say FHA officials Carol Aun MISSION RECORD

The Fraser Health Authority has no plans to close Mission’s Christine Morrison Hospice (CMH) or eliminate beds. “Fraser Health has a comprehensive longterm plan for end of life care throughout all our communities and CMH in Mission is an important part of the care continuum provided to support and comfort patients from Abbotsford, Mission and surrounding communities,” said Carolyn Tayler, director of end of life care for Fraser Health. Speculation that Mission’s hospice was in jeopardy was raised by former Abbotsford-Mission MLA Randy Hawes in a letter to the editor, which was published first on this newspaper’s website on May 23, 2014. In the letter,

he said there are “hints” that CMH would close after Holmberg House Hospice (HHH), a new hospice in Abbotsford, opened. “Fraser Health is continually reviewing its

services to meet the needs of communities, which is why the Holmberg House in Abbotsford is currently being developed and expected to open in 2016,” said Tayler.

There are 10 beds at CMH and there will be 10 beds at HHH. According to health authority statistics, CMH had an occupancy rate of 83 per cent in 2013. About 49 per cent of the clients

Teams earns gold, silver Two Mission softball teams earned first and second place at the U12 B.C. Regional Championships. The event ran June 7-8 in Langley, and the Mission Green Machine took gold, followed by the Hornets, which earned silver. The Green Machine had a standout season winning nearly 90 per cent of its games, according to coach Steve Zanatta. The road to the gold medal matchup was seven games long, and Zanatta said the only loss was the first game. “They were a little nervous as they had never played in front of so many people, but after that they settled down and won the next six straight games to take the championship,” he said. “In the last game they came from behind thanks to solid pitching and good defence.” The Green Machine were down 4-1 going into the bottom of the sixth. Hits by Ayla MacDougle, Deja Zanatta, Hayley Derlago and Avery Loewen put the team up 6-4. Derlago was voted best pitcher and Loewen put on a batting clinic, said Zanatta, with homeruns in four out of seven games.

It’s Kusum Soni’s inclusive embrace that earned her this year’s Betty Urquhart community service award from the University of the Fraser Valley. A guiding light in a foreign land, Soni ties together vulnerable communities with compassion. She instills confidence through programming for seniors at Mission Community Services, educating immigrants and other vulnerable elders on building positive attitudes by making action plans for food and exercise, and more. Her vision has widened the scope and range of Mission’s Diwali celebrations over the last five years, helping the event to grow from 30 participants to 800 and 16 partners, including the UFV Centre for Indo-Canadian Studies. Though funding is available for catering, Soni’s philosophy of inclusion stretched to bring Rotarians into the Sikh temple to help cook meals. “Socializing with each other tears down walls.” That connection between food and community is carried on by Soni’s own hands when she creates traditional Indian dishes for two dozen women at Abbotsford’s Warm Zone, a Home, Healing and Space program and a day shelter for women who are living and working on the streets. What began as a monthly venture quickly evolved into a weekly institution. “The meal was just a medium to talk to the women, but it took almost a year to earn their confidence. I wanted to know what happened in their life, and eventually they became a part of mine.” She received her award June 13, during UFV’s morning convocation ceremony.

riders but it is open to anyone wanting to experience back-to-back corners ranging from very tight to wide, sweeping turns. Our run up this road was wide open thanks to steady rain, with a few dozen motorcyclists out for a tour and several photographers taking pictures, then selling them to tourists, the same way you can buy a picture of your rollercoaster ride at the PNE! Paved roads are the place the MX-5 shines, wet or dry. It never felt like the car was out of control, even on the fastest and most aggressive corners. There is so much goodness dialled into this little car that it rewards the driver and passenger hour-after-hour. With a front engine, rear drive setup and perfect weight distribution, the MX-5 has been one of my all-time favourite cars because of its simplicity. The small, light, thrifty dimensions matched to a raspy 2.0L 4-cylinder and 6-speed manual makes for a fantastic power-to-weight distribution, meaning the 160hp engine might not sound like much on paper but, in practice, it makes the most of every situation. One thing Mazda’s event planners had us do was drive and collect information for each day’s challenges. All of these were kept secret until the beginning of each drive, including the roads we might travel. A surprise was that some sections were unpaved. Taking Mazda’s brand new MX-5 through forest back-roads at speed, meant rocks flying, branches felled from the previous night’s storm kicking up, sliding sideways through corners and pounding over rough and rutted gravel. At the end, the MX-5 showed no signs of wear; it just powered on to the next challenge, which was another surprise, the Atlanta Motorsports Park for an autocross challenge. To say we went from one extreme to the other is an understatement. An hour earlier I was sliding across gravel roads, followed by sliding around a racetrack trying to avoid pylons to dial in my best lap time. As it turns out I did get the second best time of the event but one of those pylons got in the way, knocking down my time by two seconds, all part of the challenge’s rules. Over the three-day event, Alexandra and I didn’t have one disagreement, I made some navigational errors and so did she. We let it roll, these were long days and we hoped a few small glitches wouldn’t impact our score too much. We

also missed one major clue in our guidebook, one that was worth a whopping 50 points. At the end, we had slipped from second place after the first day to fifth

Doris J. Paterson, well-known artist and author, died after a short illness at the Christine Morrison Hospice June 11, 2014. Doris was born in Portsmouth England in 1924. She had been looking forward to her 90th birthday next month. Doris was predeceased by her husband Willy Smith two months ago. Willy was the focus of the popular series of books written by Doris, such as the Willy Stories, in which she wrote with humour and poignancy about her relationship with the “bicycle man.” Doris is survived by ten children (Barbara/George; Brenda/Rex; Scott/Michelle; Patrick/Pauline; Ted/Debbie; Laura/Gregg; Norman Pearce/ Nanette; Mark/Lorna; Joy/ Dario; and Paul/Jackie), as well as a brother John Pearce in Australia. Family stories tell that Doris’ talents were a constant source of entertainment when she was growing up. She could always be counted on to cheer her parents and siblings with storytelling, drawing and play acting. She had a natural flair for the dramatic and starred in many school plays in England and Hong Kong. She was also exceptionally beautiful. She won the crown as Queen of Leamington Spa in England when she was 17. She was extremely popular with soldiers and airmen when she volunteered at War-

Doris experienced many challenges in her life. She lost two children, she endured many moves across Canada in Ted’s career in the air force, and she lived with Ted and ten children in houses with only one bathroom. Although she had always “dabbled” in visual art, when she and Ted were divorced in 1982, she moved from Winnipeg to Nanaimo and then later to Mission to develop her artistic talents to their full potential. Doris has received many awards, too numerous to mention here, in acknowledgement of her community service and her artistic ability. She was particularly grateful for receiving the Mission Muse, the Mission Senior Idol, the Mission Woman of the Year, and the Pathfinder awards. She was profoundly appreciative for the support she received in her visual art and her writing from the people of Mission. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Christine Morrison Hospice (c/o Mission Hospice Society Unit E 7311 James St., Mission BC V2V 3V5) in Doris’ memory. A celebration of her life will be held at the Mission Arts Centre Rock Family Gallery June 28, 2014 at 1:00 PM. The event will be in conjunction with the opening of an art show to profile the work of Doris Paterson and Barbara Metz. James “Jim” George Carrothers Ellis, born April 19, 1925 in Winnipeg, MB, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2014 at Abbotsford Regional Hospital, Abbotsford, BC. He is survived by 3 children: Chris, Catherine (Al) and Hugh (Sandy); 3 grandchildren: Meagan (Mike), James (Lauren) and Katelyn (Eric); and 2 great-granddaughters, Charlotte and Madilyn. Jim was predeceased by his wife Alice in 1985. After service in the RCAF from 1942-1945, his education and work revolved around the field of Pedology - soil science. He was a pioneer in this field and spent his working years at the University of Saskatchewan, from where he retired in 1988 after an impressive and accomplished 38 year career. Some of his fondest memories were of the people he met, taught and worked with over his time with the university. Jim and Ruth (Zoorkan) enjoyed their years in BC from 1989 and she predeceased him in 2013. He will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held next spring in Saskatoon. Donations in memory of Jim may be made to the Salvation Army. Tributes and condolences may be left at:

Frances Akins passed away peacefully on June 15, 2014 at ARHCC with her husband and daughters by her side. Her passing was the culmination of a valiant five year battle with cancer. Fran was born in Winnipeg to Harry and Rose Smith, but moved at an early age to BC, spending most of her youth in Bradner, then moving with her family to Abbotsford in 1958, where she resided until her death. A strong advocate for the protection of wildlife and the conservation of their habitats, Fran enjoyed long walks on nature trails. Fran is survived by her husband Wayne, daughters Andrea Middleton (Jamie) and Heather Jalbout (Talid), sister Rosemary Bingham (Paul), and her grandchildren Jordyn, Charlotte, Carter, Elan and Théo. In accordance with Fran’s wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Nature Conservancy of Canada or the Canadian Wildlife Federation.

Catherine Mary Jocelyn (Ormsby) March 19, 1923 – June 12, 2014 Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Friend, Activist, Teacher Cathie was born in Vernon B.C. to George and Maggie Ormsby, fruit farmers of the Coldstream District. They taught their daughters that “God gave women brains for a purpose”. They surrounded them with books, ideas and active discussion, as well as, the belief that “the world of the mind, should prevail”. At 16, Cathie earned the Governor General’s Award and in 1940, she left rural life for Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. In 1941 Cathie and Jim met when she was an English student and Jim was a medical student, in the Canadian Army, preparing for the battlefields of WW2. When Cathie graduated in 1943, she took a job as a censor, in Ottawa. In 1946, while Jim completed his residency at St.Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, Cathie worked in a bank downtown, preparing for their marriage on June, 7, 1947. Jim got a call from Dr. Bill McLure, that the community of Mission was desperate for doctors. So, Jim and Cathie caught the bus and came to Mission, quickly accepting their new opportunity. Cathie had 4 children, in the next 8 years and her life was filled with the challenges of raising 3 boys and a girl, as well as being married to a dedicated family doctor. Devoted to the interests of her children, she provided all 4, with her energy and her endless, caring, love. Cathie balanced her life through her thirst for literature and education and volunteerism in her community. She completed her Masters degree at SFU at the age of 60 and began teaching English at Fraser Valley College and Simon Fraser University. In 1986, the collaborative efforts of several people in Mission resulted in the establishment of the Lifetime Learning Centre. Cathie co-founded this organization, which was an outlet for her passion for adult education. With Mission’s unique medical history being of obvious interest, Cathie co-authored Mission’s Living Memorials, with Betty Dandy and Betty Robertson. 2014 marks the 40th anniversary since the preservation of the old Mission Hospital building, a successful project due to the tenacity of Cathie and other activists in Mission. Travel and adventure were Jim and Cathie’s great pleasure, so they settled in to parts of the world that held their interests in history and culture. Cathie and Jim chose to remain in their beloved home of 62 years. This decision was supported by their devoted family. They had outstanding friends and neighbours who watched out for them, visited them and companioned them, on a street that had become synonymous with “the heart of Mission”. Cathie’s accolades were many, as she was a highly respected contributor to the texture and culture of Mission. A highlight of Cathie’s public life came at the age of 87, when she received an Honorary Doctorate at the University of the Fraser Valley. Cathie and Jim suffered deeply, the deaths of 2 of their children, Jim in 2001 and John, in 2008. They were survived by their much loved son, Chris. They were companioned and cared for by their granddaughter and long time employee, Jo. They were supported and cared for, by their loving daughter, Libby, son in law, Ron and their children, Caitlin (Imraan) and Corey (Andrea). On April 4th, Jim died, with his adoring family at his side and Cathie, holding his hand. Just the day before his death, he said to Cathie, “Don’t be long”. For Cathie, living became an effort, with a heaviness of heart that would not allow her to continue beyond the 70 days after Jim’s death. Family and friends created a safe and caring environment, in her old home, but we knew she would soon follow the love of her life. Two weeks in the hospital allowed time for the final gifts from this remarkable woman. Cathie died on June 12, 2014. Special thanks to Stacey and Ann, from NurseNextDoor. Thanks to the paramedics and to the staff of the Abbotsford Hospital Emergency for their attentiveness to 2 very aged people, in dire need of care. To the Ace Unit and the Cheam 3 Ward we extend our deep gratitude for your meticulous medical attention. To Dr. Manreet Gill, you paid attention, you listened and you advocated -our heartfelt thanks to you. To Dr. Mike Newton, you will not be forgotten for your gentle and philosophical approach to both, Jim’s and Cathie’s end of life needs. There will be a gathering in honour of Cathie Marcellus, held on Sunday June 22, at the Best Western Hotel in Mission, from 2-4. Donations, in Cathie’s name, may be made to the Lifetime Learning Centre, in Mission.

Mrs. Evelyn Ruth (Laxton) late of Abbotsford, BC passed away on June 13, 2014 at the age of 71. She was born in Mission on November 26, 1942 to Thomas and Beatrice (McTaggart) Laxton. She was predeceased by her sister Patsy, brother Raymond, sister Doreen (Laxton) Furgason, grandson Joshua, in-laws Peter and Susan (Sawatzky) Enns. Survived by her husband of 50 years Ernie, daughter Diana (Enns) Sagert and Andy Gaspar, son Darrin and Bradina (Scott) Enns, granddaughter Avaya Enns, grandson Keatyn Enns, brother Peter and Delrose Laxton and family of Calgary, AB, niece Doreen (Furgason) and Don Gardner of Beaverdell, BC and numerous nephews. Evelyn had been a care aid at both Bradley Centre in Chilliwack, BC, as well as at Heritage Village in Sardis, BC. When she was diagnosed with cancer in 2005, she retired but became a companion to some elderly folks where she had worked. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 28th at 11:00 am from Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford. A private burial will take place at a future date location to be determined. Cremation was held at Henderson’s Crematorium, Chilliwack, BC. Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses on her journey with cancer from Chilliwack General Hospital, Vancouver General Hospital, Surrey Memorial Hospital, Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre. A special thank-you goes to our dear friend, Betty Krahn who spent many hours at the hospital the last 2 weeks of Ev’s life.
