“We see our goals as going a little bit further than DPAC,” Slade-Kerr said. One of the goals is to have parents more involved and have a voice in the election. “But we want to go a step further and bring forward a strong field of candidates with the skills and the motivation, and the passion to run for school board.” She added P4PE has about a dozen members. New Westminster’s Pattullo Position Paper tour premiered in Burnaby this week. City councillors are taking turns telling city councils in the region that New West wants any new Pattullo to be a tolled, four-lane structure. Coun. Bill Harper spoke to Burnaby council on Monday and got a mixed reception. Mayor Wayne Wright held a well-attended press conference last week to state the city’s position. But there’s still a need to take the message on the road, Harper says. “We think it’s that important,” said Harper. “We’ve been reticent in the past to put out a position in a forceful manner. We decided to take the bull by the horns. We want to make sure everyone in the region knows our position.” Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan said some people in his city think even four lanes is too generous for the Pattullo. There’s already a lot of congestion on his streets as drivers connect between the bridge and the freeway, he said. Please see 6 LANES, A11
