It is with profound sorrow that the family of Janet Sarah Baker-Husdup announces that on the afternoon of May 5, 2014, from the comfort of her home, Janet’s spirit gracefully took flight to start a new journey amongst the stars after a brief but merciless battle with cancer. Janet, who resided in Kimberley, B.C., was born August 16, 1957 in Chawston, England to Alexander Baker (deceased) and to Joyce Baker of Aldergrove, B.C. She was a rare, gentle gem who touched the lives of many through her warm, caring, compassionate heart. She loved life and loved the beauty that earth had to offer.

Rudi Lauritzen 1949-2014 In Loving Memory of Rudi Lauritzen Rudi was tragically taken from us on May 7 in a motor vehicle accident. Eventually, with their young family, they moved to Skookumchuck in the East Kootenays. Their home for the last twenty years has been at Riondel in the West Kootenays. Rudi was a talented "Mr. Fix-It" and through his company R&R Repair served a grateful community. His work ethic was matched only by his unfailing generosity. Janet was a writer, an artist, an intellect, a teacher, an environmentalist, a culinary genius. She was a gift. She would go above and beyond to aide or comfort a friend or family member in need. Her heart was pure. She possessed a strength and courage that inspired many not only through her illness but through her life entirely. She was timid and shy yet bold and witty. She had a cheeky sense of humour and her laugh would brighten the darkest of days. She was clever and creative, a bundle of eclectic knowledge. Janet was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, partner and friend who will be forever in the hearts of the people who loved her. She is survived by Dean Boyles and will be lovingly cherished by her Mother; Joyce Baker, her three children; Jesse Husdup, Jennifer Husdup (Jonas), Cody Husdup (Brooke), her siblings; Geoff Baker (Vivian), Marilyn Kecskes, Diane George (Neil), Susan Baker (Rob), her many nieces and nephews, her close and loving friends, and her three grandchildren – her whole world – Jaden, Jasmine, and Ella. Janet’s cremation took place on Thursday, May 8, 2014. In keeping with Janet’s wishes, there will be no funeral. At her request, there will be a private ceremony held at a later date.

OBITUARY ZMURCHYK Edward Michael Zmurchyk passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the age of 60 years. Ed was born on January 19, 1954 in Fernie and spent the rest of his life in the Elk Valley. Ed was a family man who loved spending time with his children and grand children. He was a big kid at heart much like his brother John and all children enjoyed his company. He was compassionate, loving and accepting of everyone. Ed was naturally skilled in many areas, he was a talented electrician and worked at West Star from 1973 to the time it closed in 1991. When the mine closed he started his own very successful business, “Ed’s Electric” and after returning to work at Line Creek, kept his business running. He recently took time out of his busy work schedule to travel to Egypt and throughout Israel. Ed’ passion was his faith and he found a loving ministry to embrace, he was an active member in the New Life Foursquare Church in Cranbrook, BC, where he volunteered as an audio visual technician and enjoyed being a part of his church family. Another of Ed’s passions was basketball; he taught all his children how to play and play well and shared his knowledge with the children in the community as he refereed. Every basketball player knew that “Fast Eddie” was always there to answer their questions and on some occasions show them a move or two that could keep them out of foul trouble. Ed was loved by so many and was well known for his words of encouragement and a man who was always available to anyone who needed words of wisdom. He was often found looking for ways to be a blessing to anyone. Through the years Ed touched the hearts and lives of many people and committed his time to be a pillar in the community and has left everyone with fond memories that will last a lifetime. Ed will be sadly missed by his 5 children; Clay (Renee) Zmurchyk , Jeremy (Ashley), Nicole, Samuel and Christian Zmurchyk as well as grandchildren Dom, Morgan and Kai, Ainsley, his step children Desiree and Tasha Brown. His fiancé Catherine Guenther, siblings Pam (Rick) Rosner, Fred (Marlis) Zmurchyk, John (Sue) Zmurchyk and Diane (Joe) Warshawsky and their families are also left to mourn Ed’s passing. He was predeceased by his parents Fred and Kate Zmurchyk and his sister Patricia.
