Billionaire NBA basketball team owner Mark Cuban might have thought twice about being a part of a $1.2 million investment in Richmond-headquartered software startup Procurify if he’d first driven by their Vickers Way offices. Even if you knew the address to this spend-management solution company, you’d be forgiven for driving past, because there’s literally no sign they’re there. But the truth of the matter is that Cuban didn’t invest in their offices. It is the brains behind Procurify, staffed by twenty-somethings, and their potentially game-changing software, that secured his attention and then his money. Earlier this month, Procurify obtained $1.2 million in funding from Cuban—who owns the Dallas Mavericks—along with Nexus Venture Partners, India’s most successful venture capital fund, and the Business Development Bank of Canada. The money will be earmarked for growing the 22-strong team, about half of which is from Richmond. That means they’re looking for local talent, in customer and technical support, who have a zest for excellence.
