Ktunaxa insist salmon part of Columbia River Treaty review The East Kootenay First Nation says restoring salmon to the upper Columbia River should be a part of discussions with the U.S. to renew the historic water management agreement SALLY MACDONALD Townsman Staff

A week after the B.C. government released its principles for negotiation of the Columbia River Treaty renewal, the Ktunaxa Nation is urging negotiators to keep salmon restoration on the table. “While we have achieved a remarkable amount of consensus, our negotiators have not reached common ground with B.C. on all matters relating to the possible renewal of the treaty,” said Ktunaxa Nation Council Chair Kathryn Teneese.

Bavarian Iron Legs is coming C AROLYN GR ANT editor@dailybulletin.ca

It’s been a tradition in Kimberley for the past 30 years, and the 31st rendition is set for March 29. It’s the Bavarian Iron Legs Quadrathon — an extreme test of fitness involving biking, running, cross-country and downhill skiing. Competitors will downhill ski two

kilometres, cross-country ski five kilometres, run for four kilometres and cycle four and a half kilometres, all for the right to call themselves Iron Legs champion. It’s all happening at the Kimberley Alpine Resort on Saturday, March 29. You can race as an individual, a mixed team of four members or a children’s team. Waivers must be signed and helmets are mandatory for ski

board and bike. You can download a registration form at skikimberley.com and email it to events@skikimberley.com or print it out and bring it into Guest Services at KAR. Those registering before March 25 will receive a discount. In addition to the racing, there will be prizes and a barbecue.

Interested parties can speak for or against next Monday, 7 p.m. C AROLYN GR ANT editor@dailybulletin.ca

current C-1 commercial to C-3 commercial automobile was passed on Monday night. The site is just beside the Baptist Church on Marsden and the applicant proposes to use the rear lane for entry to the car wash and Marsden Street for exit. The car wash building will be set back far enough to allow vehicles to fully exit the building before turning onto the street. It will be set back enough on the lane side to allow two cars to line up. The proposed height of the building is 7.5 metres. The zoning would allow for 9.1 m. Anyone wishing to speak for or against the car wash will have an opportunity at Council on March 24.
