Council approves permit to develop ‘bunker’ BY LORNE ECKERSLEY Advance Staff
A solution that would put an end to a 12-year-old blight on Creston’s downtown core might finally be at hand, town council learned at the Jan. 14 regular meeting. Council approved the application for a development permit that could pave the way for construction of 85 seniors apartments on the site of “the bunker” at Northwest Boulevard and Vancouver Street. The application by the property owner, Chaplin West Ventures Ltd., proposes to use the existing concrete foundations, which were poured in 2001. The original zoning bylaw was written to accommodate 50 motel sleeping units, 80 seniors apartments and 20 seniors long-term care beds. Construction didn’t proceed when the original developer’s funding dried up after the dot-com crash of the early 1990s. “I think this is great!” Coun. Tanya Wall said as she thanked town staff for working with the developer in recent months. See BUNKER, page 2

wanted to do in the regular season,” said head coach Josh Hepdtich. “We set a goal for the playoffs, and now we’ve set a goal to win the division. … We’re trying to increase the spread and lock up home-ice advantage.” The Thunder Cats are currently at the top of the Kootenay International Junior
