RCMP investigating Davie Street shooting incident AUTUMN MacDONALD Observer Reporter After RCMP investigated what appears to be two bullet holes into the side of 185 Davie, brewery owner Russ Ovans is taking the high road. “We love this community,� the Barkerville Brewing proprietor said. “We’re here for the long haul.� Sept. 19, brewmaster

Troy Rudolph called in to report what looked like two bullet holes through the front windows of the building. RCMP subsequently responded to the call. “It’s too bad because it’s expensive and it’s money we could have put into free tastings for the community,� Ovans said. The two holes struck, what will be, the tasting and merchandise room.

Company will have three core brands to choose from: the 18-Karat Ale, the Prospector’s Peril Irish Ale and the Wandering Camel. “We plan to have a fourth on tap and in stores,� Ovans said, adding the fourth will be a “seasonal brew� switched every three months. “We’re telling the story of the Cariboo Gold Rush,� he said.

“We want to tell the story of Barkerville and Quesnel really embraces it’s past – hence the Gold Pan City.� Ovans said the location and building were perfect for his micro-brewery venture. “It’s strategically located and at a reasonable price,� he said. “It’s a fantastic lot.� So far renovations have been ongoing since he first

took possession Aug. 31. Most recently they were approved for a facade improvement grant for $5,000 and painting is expected to commence Friday, weather permitting. Ovans hopes to be open in December. “We cannot wait to start selling beer to the good folks of Quesnel,� he said. “The people of the Cariboo deserve their own authentic beer.�
