With a technical assessment and public survey (phase one) of the Kettle River watershed plan now complete, the regional district and the Kettle River watershed stakeholder advisory group are now working on developing solutions to watershed issues (phase two). The Kettle River watershed management plan is an initiative of the RDKB, aiming to guide decision making about water resources,
land use planning and resource management that affects water in the Boundary area, said Graham Watt, project coordinator for the Kettle River watershed plan for the RDKB. The advisory group is now reaching out to involve people in communities from across the region who have a stake in water resources to discuss issues and come up with solutions. “Over the coming few months, we’ll be looking at some very tricky topics,” he said.

T
he nation’s two solitudes came together this week in Grand Forks to bring a little taste of the east to the west.
Twenty-two students from Magog, Quebec, brought their language to 22 students from Grand Forks Secondary School (GFSS) as part of SEVEC, an exchange program which pairs French-speaking students from Quebec with stu-
dents from Western Canada. David Reimer, a French and social studies teacher at GFSS and the local organizer for the program, said the first hand experience for the students was invaluable.
“My students don’t often get a chance to use their French outside the classroom,” he said. “So this was a great chance for the students to learn that French is a living language.”
