In Memoriam Memories don’t fade, they just grow deep For the ones we love but could not keep We hold our tears When we speak your name, But the ache in our hearts Remain the same No one knows the sorrow we share When the family meets And you’re not there. We laugh, we smile, we play our parts, Behind it all lies broken hearts. Unseen, unheard, you’re always near, So loved, so missed, so very dear. Just as you were, you will always be Forever treasured in our memory

While surrounded by his family, Ernest Robert Nield passed peacefully on August 26th /2013 at Hospice House. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas William and Sarah Nield, and most recently his brother, William, all of England. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 54 years, Norma; son Mark Nield (Kathleen) of Vernon; daughter Julie French (Duī) of Cochrane; and son Howard Clearman (Anne) of Pasadena. He is also remembered by: his sister BeƩy Ardern (Lawrence) of Calgary; sister-in-law Linda Jones (Eric) of St. Catherines; and sisterin-law Audrey Nield of England; grandchildren: Madelynn (Geoī), Arron, Tori, Michael, Jeremy (Amber), Jamie, and Ayla; his 4 great-grandchildren: Keira, Riley, Kaden, and WyaƩ; as well as many nieces, nephews and edžtended family members throughout Canada and England. Ernie was born in Manchester, England on January 27th, 1927. Growing up during the war, he went to work as a young teenager to help support his family in the coal business where he learned at very early age the ethic of hard work and an honest dollar. He married his Įrst wife, Beryl, and had his Įrst son, Howard, before coming to the USA in the early ‘50’s. Unfortunately, the marriage dissolved and Ernie returned to England where he married Norma and they had two children, Mark and Julie. Dad’s health predicated him having to leave England’s wet climate and moving the family to Canada in 1968, Įrst seƩling in Falkland on a large farm. Realinjing that farming was perhaps not his calling, the nedžt move was shorter and in 1970 moved to Vernon. Relying on his knowledge and edžperience of having owned and operated kennels and quaranƟne secƟon for Manchester, Ernie built the Commonage Kennels and became the pound keeper. Throughout Dad’s many various businesses he owned, he always tried to provide business opportuniƟes that he and Mom could operate together and provide the kids with some chances to learn and work with them. Some of their endeavours included the Hobby/ Model Shop, making candies (Okanagan Candies ), doll furniture, Okanagan Ribbons, Roberts & Roberts Screw Manufacturing, Video Movies and Okanagan Pillows/Duvets. Dad and Mom worked together as partners for their enƟre marriage. Whenever you saw either of them, you would know the other wasn’t far away. Ernie’s family would like to thank the wonderful staī at Hospice House for their care and hugs.
