Fair fun in full swing RICHARD ROLKE Morning Star Staff
There’s still plenty of time to take in the action of the Interior Provincial Exhibition. A steady crowd is expected today — the last day of the 114th annual Armstrong fair. “We are in the swing of things,” said Bryan Burns, IPE general manager. Burns anticipates that many people will be making their first visit to the fair while others have been several times since the gates opened Wednesday. “We have had people come here for the first time ever and they say it’s awesome,” he said. “There is so much to see and do.” Attendance figures show there were 15,921 people on the grounds Wednesday and 16,105 Thursday. But the numbers could swell towards last year’s
total of 150,170 as huge crowds were anticipated Friday, Saturday and Sunday under sunny skies. The popularity of the IPE largely revolves around its diversity. You can focus on just the midway or spend all of your time looking at livestock and horticultural displays. For some, they come only for the rodeo. “If you want to eat some great food and listen to music at the stage, you can do that too,” said Burns. With hundreds of thousands of people wandering around, Burns is relying on an army of staff and volunteers to ensure everything proceeds as scheduled. “The volunteers are incredible. We couldn’t run an event of this size without the volunteers,” he said. For more information, go to www.armstrongipe.com.
