A collision between a motorcycle and a sedan at Yellow Lake sent two people to hospital and caused major traffic disruptions on Highway 3A on Saturday, August 17. A red, 1998 Dodge Neon travelling southbound on Highway 3A struck a northbound Honda motorcycle while turning into the Yellow Lake rest area at the south end of the lake at approximately 4 p.m.
Saturday afternoon. The 70 year old driver of the motorcyle suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital in Vancouver. The 50 year old driver of the Neon was taken to Penticton Regional Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and has since been released. He is a Keremeos resident. Traffic was backed up in both directions for some time, opening to one lane alternating traffic prior to opening completely while police investigated the incident.
Members of the Keremeos RCMP’s traffic unit, BC Ambulance and the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department attended the incident. No names have been released as the accident is still under investigation. Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors. On Friday, August 16, a young woman who was taking photos in front of Mariposa Fruit Stand was clipped by a car when she tried to cross the highway. She was transported to hospital by ambulance but her injuries were not serious.
