Health Centre needs electrical upgrade All health centre services were closed last week CAROLYN GRANT editor@dailybulletin.ca
The Kimberley Health Centre, which houses a selection of Interior Health primary care services, some private, health-care related businesses, as well as the Kimberley Medical Associates clinic, was closed by electrical problems last week, but is now open again. That meant anyone in Kimberley needing to see a doctor last week had to go to East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook and wait in the emergency department. Coun. Jack Ratcliffe, who sits
on the Health Centre Society says the problem has its root in antiquated electrical equipment. “The issue isn’t in the building, it’s in the connection material outside,” Ratcliffe said. “It’s antiquated equipment and it’s the building’s responsibility not BC Hydro’s, which we were not aware of at the time. “The first time it went down last fall the backup generator covered it and they got it going again. But last week it started acting up again.” Ratcliffe says the Health Centre Society is dealing with BC Hydro now on design and costs to modernize the equipment up to current standards.

Edible garden tour CAROLYN GRANT editor@dailybulletin.ca
Local food sustainability has been much on the minds of East Kootenay residents lately and there’s no better way to ensure fresh, local produce than to grow it yourself. Earlier this spring Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook offered workshops on gardening, and now they are offering an opportunity for you to view, and get inspiration, from some great local gardens.
Edible garden tours are being offered in Kimberley today, from 5 to 9 p.m. and in Cranbrook on Wednesday, August 14, same time. Maps of gardens open for viewing are vailable at Top Crop, Top Crop Too and the Widlsight office in Kimberley. This is a great opportunity to connect and trade tips with other veggie gardeners in the area. Entrance to gardens is by donation. Children are welcome, but please leave your pets at home.
