Grand Forks and the surrounding area will soon have a new company to enforce an animal control bylaw. The Commissionaires (a private company) have been hired by the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) to provide animal control bylaw enforcement for Areas C (Christina Lake), Grand Forks (city), Area D (rural Grand Forks) and Greenwood. The Commissionaires, who will begin a one-year contract on Sept. 1, were voted in on July 25 at the RDKB board meeting in Grand Forks. The Commissionaires are a Canadian-wide company primarily offering security services. “The Commissionaires have given us a very good proposal and they’re a very well respected organization,” said RDKB director of corporate administration Elaine Kumar. “They’re going to get things taken care of in terms of animal control. Riverside Art Gallery now open The Riverside Art Gallery was officially opened on Saturday, Aug. 3 during the 2013 Rock Creek Art Walk. “This is something that Rock Creek has needed for many, many years and thanks to the McDonald family and Kettle River Woodcraft, it has come into being,” said Ann Rexin. During the Art Walk the Riverside Artists placed fish paintings at businesses throughout the community that were awarded by drawing to those visiting the exhibits.

Winners were Jane Henry, Callie Anderson, Tammy Best, Pat Pownall, Lane Reay, Farron McDonald, Alec Brarbar, Tina Hesketh, Deb Tisltra, Jade Fossen, and Tom Haines. The winner of the gallery door prize, a Terry Jackson porcelain vase, was M. Wylie. The gallery will continue to display local artists, with the artwork changing frequently. “We invite you to drop by and say hi,” said Rexin. “Workshops will be advertised and a sign up sheet left at the gallery. Everyone is welcome.”
