Get your share in Sidney BIA to launch a new marketing brand this month Steven Heywood News staff

New marketing plans for Sidney will encourage visitors to “come get your share” of all that the community has to offer. Sidney’s Business Improvement Area (BIA) gave town councillors a brief overview of their branding and marketing plans this week, which carry the tagline of “Distinctly Sidney” and the catchphrase, “Come Get Your Share” which they say can be paired with some of the community’s selling points, such as relaxation, shopping, memories and culture. Angus Matthews, the BIA’s marketing committee chair, says the organization put in hundreds of hours in developing the brand they plan to market mostly outside of Sidney. “We looked at other options like Sidney-By-The Sea, but we went back to the people, setting and offerings outAngus line to come up with this base conMatthews cept,” he explained. This brand, he continued, will be used in advertising in magazines, Google ads and tourism publications targeted to potential visitors in Calgary, Vancouver and Seattle. VIHa lab hours cut back

Low patient volume on the Saanich Peninsula in afternoons a factor Devon MacKenzie News staff

Two Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) medical laboratories on the Saanich Peninsula will close earlier in the day starting next month. Two labs in Central Saanich, one on Keating X Road and the lab in Brentwood Bay will close to patients at noon on weekday afternoons, rather than 4:30 p.m., beginning Aug. 8.

The Keating X Road lab will also no longer offer weekend service. VIHA media spokesperson Suzanne Germaine said the usage of the medical testing labs during afternoon hours was low at the two labs and that the usage didn’t warrant keeping them open during the afternoon hours. “Patient volume is about five people during the afternoons at these labs because many of the patients are going in for fasting-based tests which

are usually done in the mornings,” said Germaine. “It was really about looking at the situation and figuring out how we can use our resources the best way,” she said of the early closures, adding that Saanich Peninsula residents have other options for lab testing including Life Labs and the VIHA lab at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital.
