The caps are tossed, the favourite part of the annual Kalamalka Secondary School grad photo at the Kal Lake lookout Thursday afternoon.

Kal grads look toward future LISA VANDERVELDE Morning Star Staff

Alysha Brule retrieves her cap after tossing it for the annual Kalamalka Secondary School grad photo.

The 137 graduates of Kalamalka Secondary School gather at the Kal lookout for their annual class photograph in a sea of blue caps and gowns, a fitting backdrop as they look toward their futures. With Kalamalka Lake shimmering in the background, grad Emily Deederly reflects on how it feels to be closing the book on high school. “It is exciting but also nervewracking at the same time because you don’t know what’s going to happen next,” said Deederly. Kaelyn Parmelee is one of several

students who has their immediate future mapped out. “I got a scholarship to play volleyball in Victoria so I’m excited to go there,” said Parmelee, who helped the Lakers win the provincial AA girls volleyball championships. With each graduate planning their next step in life, the thought of the last few weeks of school being the final time many of them will spend together is on their minds. “It is a little bit sad because we are all separating and going our own ways but I’m excited for everyone; they have so much potential and will do great things,” said Morganna Pogue.
