Four charged with woman’s murder
Accused include husband of victim Kulwinder Gill Vikki HOPES
Abbotsford News
GILL
Kulwinder Kaur Gill, 42, was walking along a rural Abbotsford road with her husband in April 2009 when she was hit by a vehicle and thrown into a water-filled ditch. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and the incident was reported in the media as a hit-and-run accident. No further details were ever released
publicly to indicate that foul play was suspected. On Monday, members of the Abbotsford Police Department (APD) and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) revealed that four men were arrested and charged in relation to Gill’s death. Among them was her husband, Iqbal Singh Gill, 49. He and two others – Gurpreet Singh Atwal, 26, of
Abbotsford and Jaspreet Singh Sohi, 28, of Surrey – were charged with first-degree murder. Sukhpal Singh Johal, 26, of Surrey was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and accessory after the fact. Kulwinder died while walking in the area of Townshipline Road and Bell Road, east of Highway 11. Responding officers were flagged Continued on A3

said. The Canucks purchased the AHL’s Peoria Rivermen last month. Speculation in the hockey world had them moving to Abbotsford, with the Calgary Flames relocating the Abbotsford Heat to Utica, N.Y. Both of the parties which run the Heat – the Flames, who own the team and handle the hockey operations, and Fraser Valley Sports and Entertainment (FVSE), which manages the business side – were willing to step aside for the Canucks’ farm team. That’s according to FVSE’s Lane Sweeting, who said his group gave the City of Abbotsford and the Canucks Continued on A3
