Chamber hires Julyfest coordinator C AROLYN GR ANT editor@dailybulletin.ca

At their annual general meeting this past winter, Kimberley and District Chamber of Commerce board members stated their intention to grow JulyFest into an even bigger summer event. To that end the Chamber has hired a coordinator to organize the weekend. Dave Clarke, a Kimberley native, will be taking the reins, will oversee Bocce, Parade, Civic Centre and retail events for this year’s festivities.. He has an extensive background in event planning with City of Victoria and BC Hockey and Hockey Canada. “Dave brings his experience and hometown knowledge to

bring together the Chamber of Commerce July Fest events,” said Chamber President Darren Close. Clarke says there are no plans to change any of the popular events, merely to find ways to improve and grow the festival overall. “I am excited to be back in Kimberley and have the opportunity to be the Coordinator of Julyfest. The 41st anniversary of Julyfest will continue Kimberley’s legacy by offering the fun and excitement expected for our largest summer event, as well as promote new opportunities to reflect Kimberley’s growth in population and vibrant shopping experience. I am looking forward to another great summer in this beautiful city” added Clarke.

Grizzlies are up and about in Wycliffe Hiker spots grizzly tracks near Wycliffe buttes C AROLYN GR ANT editor@dailybulletin.ca

One of the things Susan Bond had hoped for after recovering from a grizzly attack last fall, was that people would let others know when they saw bear tracks, especially around popular hiking areas. She received just such a heads up last Thursday from local hiker Lyle Grisedale of Kim-

berley. Bond and her husband, Peter Moody, were both badly injured when they surprised a grizzly sow and her two cubs last November while walking near their home on LD Ranch Road. Grisedale was hiking on the Wycliffe prairie last Thursday — as the crow flies not all that far from where Bond and Moody were attacked. See GRIZZLY, page 3 Lyle Grisedale photo

At right is a photo of the bear track Grisedale found last Thursday. He says the water bottle is ten inches long.
