Parents cry foul over school cuts About two dozen parents, students and teachers had their say on the Delta Board of Education’s proposed spending cuts aimed at balancing the operating budget for the 2013-2014 school year, which include cuts to rural busing and culinary programs. The board has tabled $1.9 million in cuts to staff, programs and supplies to help cover a projected $3.5 million deficit. ❙ See story, P.4

Agricultural Land Reserve turns 40 It was 40 years ago, on April 18, 1973, that the BC NDP government passed into law the B.C. Land Commission Act, which put millions of hectares of farmland under the oversight and protection of an Agricultural Land Reserve. Today the ALR has 4.7 million hectares, protecting what accounts for just 4.7 per cent of the province’s total land base. ❙ See story, P.6
