Another banner will hang in the Midway arena as the Boundary Predators Pee Wee House team went undefeated at the playoffs last weekend on Castlegar ice. The team played five games in all, three in the round robin. Their first game in the round robin was a tie against Nakusp on Friday night. They won their next two games – a close game against one of the Nelson teams, which the Preds took by one goal, and then they took a 10-0 win over Castlegar. The Boundary team went into Sunday in first place on their side after the round robin. In the playoffs they beat Castlegar1 by a score of 6-2. That put them in the finals on Sunday afternoon against Nelson1.

The first period ended in a scoreless tie. When the scoring did begin, each team scored a goal so close together that hockey mom Leanne McLaren, who was keeping the folks back home updated via Facebook, didn’t have time to post the news of the first before the game was tied again. Nelson scored the next goal and held a 2-1 lead for about five minutes, but with less than 17 minutes to go in the game Boundary tied it up. The Predators took the lead with about five minutes to go in the game – scoring once more to win 4-2. On the weekend the Preds had 25 goals for and 8 against. “We were very close to Nelson all season,” said coach Scott McLaren. “We tied them once and beat them by one goal another time.”

Boundary Pee Wee House finished the regular season with an 8-3-3 record, in third place behind the two Nelson teams. Coaches for the Pee Wee House team were Scott McLaren, Gord Dynneson and Nick Gunther. The team manager was Jaylene Bosovich. McLaren said that at the end of the final game the refs said that was probably the best Pee Wee game they’d seen in years. “It wasn’t a rough game – it was a very back and forth game and not a lot of penalties and very enjoyable to watch,” he said. “The refs and the Kootenay representatives complimented both teams on how well they played.” The banner signing will be on Thursday, March 7 at 6 p.m. at the arena.
