Vikki HOPES Abbotsford News
A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle last Thursday at McKenzie and King roads died from her injuries two days later. Const. Ian MacDonald said the 86-yearold woman appeared to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries after the collision. The woman suffered a broken hip, knee and shoulder, but was conscious and communicative at the hospital, MacDonald said. Her condition worsened and she passed away in hospital Saturday morning. The collision took place at about 10 a.m. Thursday. MacDonald said the victim was
in a marked crosswalk at the time, walking south along McKenzie, crossing King Road. The woman was hit by a northbound Nissan Pathfinder, driven by a 52-year-old woman making a left-turn at the four-way stop. Police have seized the Nissan for investigation, and the driver could face charges. Police are asking for any witnesses to call them at 604-859-5225. A similar collision occurred the following night at about 7:30, when a 72-yearold man was in a crosswalk proceeding east across Gladwin Road, near the Real Canadian Superstore. He was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup truck, driven by a
54-year-old woman, making a left turn off Simon Avenue. MacDonald said the pedestrian was conscious and talking at the scene, He was taken to hospital with abrasions to his head. His condition was not known at press deadline. The death of the 86-year-old woman marks the second pedestrian fatality this year. Shaminder Brar, 34, was found dead at the side of Riverside Road (between King and Vye roads) on the morning of Feb. 18. The driver has not come forward. Abbotsford Police have made road safety their top priority for 2013, following a year that saw nine pedestrian fatalities.
