Grand Forks Fire Rescue and RCMP responded to another fire in the North Fork Road area last Thursday. According to Grand Forks Fire Chief Dale Heriot, there was a vehicle fire 20 kilometres up North Fork Road and Grand Forks RCMP’s Staff Sgt. Jim Harrison said the fire is in the same area as a number of previous fires – it is the RCMP’s top priority, he said. “It’s on the same property again, up Miller Creek Road, and this time they burnt up an old Blue Bird school bus (that was unlicensed and uninsured),” Harrison explained. “That’s the
fourth one on that property so, we’re just totally perplexed as to what’s going on up there. We think it’s localized. We’ve talked to an awful lot of people associated to the property and we don’t seem to be getting anywhere. There’s no doubt in our mind somebody up there knows what’s going on and we will find that person and find out what they know here soon.” Harrison said police worry that if the fires continue, someone could be hurt and don’t know if there is a relation to an incident at Hummingbird Bridge last weekend, though the Thursday fire is in the same area. “That leads us to believe that somebody’s got a grudge or somebody’s got a motive out there regarding that particular property and that’s
where everything is happening,” he said. And like the fire at Hummingbird Bridge, RCMP are extending a plea to the public to call with tips. “What somebody might think is insignificant might be just that last little piece of the puzzle we need to lead us straight to who’s responsible here,” said Harrison. “We’re not seeing a clear pattern but it’s almost like a weekly event.” People with information can call Grand Forks RCMP at 250-442-8288. And as of Monday morning, Harrison said no one had called in. “We’re hoping to get someone from the public to come forward with something but nothing so far,” he said. “We’re continuing to investigate so we’ll see what shakes out of it.”
