KIMBERLEY NATURE PARK

Nature Park Society wants pictures of people at play in park C AROLYN GR ANT editor@dailybulletin.ca

Noweata Schofer and Andy Bamber present Mike Erwin with $1225 to help bring Jenna home. The money was raised by Thursday evening Edge Pub patrons, the last donation they will be making as the popular pub will be closing its doors in March. Over $35,000 was raised for Kimberley causes over the past six years on Thursdays, thanks to the efforts of Schofer and Bamber. Mike accepted on behalf of Jenna and her family and said they have been overwhelmed and amazed by the constant support from the people of Kimberley.

The Kimberley Nature Park Society last produced a trail guide in 2009, and those have just about run out. It’s time to produce another map the KNPS would like those who enjoy the park to give them a hand. “Things have changed in the Park,” said Society member Kent Goodwin. “We have new trails, revised trails and we want to catch those, and other small changes, in a new trail guide. We’d like to refresh it with new pictures

too.” To get those pictures, the KNPS will turn to those who recreate in the park. “We want the photos to be from the Nature Park or Horsebarn Valley. Even if it’s a picture of a flower, we want it to be from the Park. We want to be honest about what the park is,” Goodwin said. The new trail guide will feature pictures of special areas, flora and fauna, and hopefully include a lot of photos of people enjoying themselves in the Park — hiking, biking, walking their dogs. Quite a number of photos are required, as in addition to being a trail map, the back of the guide has all kinds of information about the Park, its features and special places.

SHELTERBOX

Rotary continues to rely on Kimberley donations ShelterBox’s one day response to eight world wide disasters FOR THE BULLETIN

Recently ShelterBox had eight deployments simultaneously in various parts of the world, the most ever at one time for ShelterBox in its twelve year history. Many of these disasters are not high profile and do not receive much media attention; however the

need is enormous. In the past four years, thanks primarily to the compassion of Kimberley donors, the Kimberley Rotary Club has purchased 77 ShelterBoxes that have provided shelter and hope to 770 individuals in need around the world. In February alone deployments were rushed to the Philippines, Guatemala, Haiti, Syrian Refuges, Jordan, Mozambique, Australia and North Korea. For details as to the disasters that the ShelterBox Response Teams are facing, go to www.shelterboxcan-

ada.org. Their current newsletter includes horrendous individual stories from Syrian refugees. One ShelterBox containing a ten-person tent, stove, water containers with purification tablets, cooking equipment, tool kit, children’s activity pack, mosquito nets, woollen mitts, scarves, toques and waterproof ground mats, costs $1,000 and includes shipping to anywhere in the world. Donations may be made at Kootenay Savings Credit Union (KSCU) in Kimberley

simply by making your cheque payable to Kimberley Rotary Club. Grubstake Pizza is authorized to receive local donations. Contributions can also be made online to ShelterBox Canada at www.shelterboxcanada. org. Donations of $20 or more will receive a tax receipt. You may track online where the box you helped pay for was deployed. For further information contact Graham Mann at 250 427 5057 or gmann@shelterboxvolunteer.org.
