Fundraiser gets national attention BC Liberal fundraiser in Alberta raises eyebrows CAROLYN GRANT editor@dailybulletin.ca

Columbia River - Revelstoke candidate for the BC Liberals, Doug Clovechok, was scheduled to attend a fundraiser in Calgary on Thursday night with some big names from his party, including Deputy Premier Rich Coleman and Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development Bill Bennett. The $125 a plate dinner was held at the Delta Bow Valley in Calgary. Invitation letters, signed by Resorts of the Canadian Rockies owner Murray Edwards were

sent out to business people in both Alberta and B.C. Holding a political fundraiser out of province has raised some eyebrows, and in fact Premier Christy Clark defended the fundraiser in the Globe and Mail on Wednesday. Clovechok defends it as well, though he says he is a bit surprised at a “little tiny fundraiser turning into a national event”. “This is not an unusual thing as other parties including our provincial NDP raise money in other provinces,” Clovechok said. Clovechok said that said he wasn’t aware if the NDP had ever held an actual fundraiser out of province, but that it wasn’t that unusual.

New tourism advisory committee struck Committee to advise on Resort Municipality funding CAROLYN GRANT editor@dailybulletin.ca

A new committee to provide advice to Council on the Resort Development Strategy and to govern how the City spends the money provided through the Resort Municipality Agreement

will be struck, however not without a few Councillors questioning the need for it. A report to Council from Director of Economic Development Kevin Wilson outlined the request for the Committee. The Resort Municipality Agreement provides provincial funding for tourism infrastructure projects. Kimberley’s projects are identified through the Resort Development Strategy. See COMMITTEE, page 4

Kindergarteners from Kimberley Independent School had great fun visiting the RCMP recently. The students learnt about fingerprints, police procedures and all the jobs that have to be done by the RCMP. The children experienced what it was like to wear handcuffs, take finger prints and also asked a myriad of questions; although the definite favourite was the tour of the police cruiser. KIS students send a heartfelt thank you to Constable Skulnec, who was a fantastic host. All had an excellent day and a quick head count confirmed that no-one had been detained for crimes against grammar. See more from the visit on page 3.
