Holiday weekend
Fun all around
No excuse to stay home this holiday weekend C AROLYN GR ANT editor@dailybulletin.ca
It’s shaping up to be quite a weekend and New Years Eve at the Kimberley Alpine Resort as most accommodators are booked solid for the last few days of the holiday season. And there are plenty of fun activities all over town as well. Up at the Resort, night skiing is underway; there’s a kid’s rail jam planned for Sunday and there are all kinds of New Year’s Eve activities on the slate. To prepare for the Rail Jam, hit the Rail Park this Friday night from 6 to 8 p.m. to learn to safely master some of the rails and features. These sessions will be ongoing all season. Then on Sunday, the rail jam is on from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Rail Park Register 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the tent
by the Quad Late Registration from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Rail Park This event will be for children ages 4-12. There will be age divisions based on registrations. Prizes will be awarded. The focus will be on fun and safety. This is a perfect event for beginners and novices. All entrants will need a Park Pass to participate. There will be live music at the Stemwinder all weekend. On Saturday, don’t forget the annual Turkey Run-Off at the Lois Creek Trails. The mass start is at noon at the Trail Street trail entrance. On New Year’s Eve itself, Kimberley will be hopping. There’s New Year’s Eve at the Marysville Pub. This event, featuring the music of the Hollers, is already sold out. The Elk’s Club is also throwing a New Year’s Eve dinner and dance, with music by 60 Hertz. The Edge Pub also has a New Years Eve party planned, with DJ music from Jeremy C and no cover charge.

Year in review C AROLYN GR ANT editor@dailybulletin.ca
May A group visited Kimberley City Council to propose that a water feature be added to the flume rebuild, which will create pools and waves for whitewater enjoyment. The pools will have the added benefit of providing fish habitat and being compatible with flood control technology. Council, while interested in the concept, told the group that any funds for this water feature would not come from the City, as public safety was their only priority in the flume rebuild. One of the mountain caribou transported from Dease Lake to the East Kootenay wandered across the line and ended up in Montana where it was located by Fish, Wildlife and Parks biologists after a mortality signal was received from its collar. It turned out the animal was not deceased but suffering from tick paralysis. After treatment, it was returned to Canada. See YEAR Page 3
