Young blood needed
The Boundary Historical Society published its’ first report in 1958 – it published its’ 15th in 2006. But today the group is struggling to find people willing to serve as directors. The Midway Community Club is a group dedicated to providing the kind of lifestyle opportunities that we all cherish when we think of what makes living in smaller communities so special. They too are seeking active members who are willing to share a few hours each month. So if you are wondering what to use for that New Year’s Resolution, give these two stories a look over.

The board of the Boundary Historical Society has sent a letter to members warning that the group needs to fill positions on its board or they may have to become history themselves. According to the letter the problem first surfaced last year at their annual general meeting in October when they were unable to elect a board. But at a special general meeting held in January 2012, all the vacant positions were filled; however, at this year’s AGM held Oct. 20, they once again failed to put a full slate of officers in place. A motion was made, and passed unanimously to have the current board serve as an interim board until their annual luncheon next month. The interim board consists of: President – Les Johnson, Vice-President – Delphine Novak, Treasurer – John Billwiller, Secretary – Colleen Salikin, Past-President – Della Mallette, Directors – Peter Kootchin, Sue Adrain and Brian Grey “In order to continue as a functioning society we must be able to elect a
full complement of officers at the special general meeting in January and at our AGM next fall,” the letter stated, further warning, “The continuance of your Boundary Historical Society is up to you!” “It is quite essential that we get people to stand,” said BHS President Les Johnson. “If there is no board then we have to go into dissolution.” The board consists of the executive and six area reps who are appointed by the executive. “It’s the Boundary Historical Society so it really would be a good idea to have people representing from Rock Creek or Beaverdell all the way to Christina Lake,” stated Johnson. Johnson explained they are now in the process of getting liability insurance to cover directors. As that will create an operational expense, he has been trying to find new sources of revenue. The annual January luncheon will be held at the Boundary Museum in Grand Forks on Jan. 19. For more information contact Johnson at 250-4420706.
