Granisle trail funding By Percy Hébert Black Press

Children crowded around Santa Claus, who handed out candy canes in Steelhead Park at the Houston light up last Friday. The light up drew more than 100 people, mostly young families, who came for the countdown, Christmas lights, hot chocolate and Santa. Parents struggled to keep track of their little ones as children weaved through the crowd and ran down the lit up trails.
The Village of Granisle received an early Christmas gift of $51,153 last week from Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, Lynne Yelich. The funds are earmarked for the expansion of the winter community trail into a multiseasonal trail. The project, at a total cost of $102,306, is designed to improve the trail and make it accessible for all residents regardless of age or ability. “ O u r government, through the C o m m u n i t y Infrastructure Improvement Fund, is continuing to support the Skeena-Bulkley Valley region and communities like it across Canada,”
“ “[It’s] for the expansion of the winter community trail into a multiseasonal trail.”
Yelich said at a gathering in Smithers. “The projects announced today will help create jobs, growth and longterm prosperity.” Other groups receiving funds included the K e r m o d e Friendship Society in Terrace, the Moricetown Band and the Bulkley Backcountry Ski Society.

Installed in August and just waiting to be connected to power, the speed reading board is funded by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, costing between $10,000 and $15,000, said Lutz. “Basically right now it’s in [B.C.]

drivers, pedestrians and the general public by alerting motorists who are driving too fast, said Lutz. The project is part of a $5 million B.C. government investment for safety projects in and near B.C. communities. “These are just
