Boy hit by truck A 13-year-old boy was struck by a pickup truck on Sooke Road near Slegg Lumber, on Oct. 23. West Shore RCMP and Langford Fire Rescue attended the call at 7 p.m. and the boy, with serious injuries, was taken to hospital by Emergency Health Services. RCMP reported the boy was crossing the road in the dark when he was hit. Sooke Road was closed for about three hours while RCMP investigated. Traffic was detoured through Luxton and Humpback roads.

Pot, gun seized Two people were arrested after RCMP executed a search warrant at a Barrow Road home in Metchosin. The RCMP Street Crime Unit seized 157 marijuana plants and a loaded, sawedoff 22 caliber rifle. A 47-year-old man and 38-year-old woman were in the home and arrested. The home was formerly licensed for growing medical marijuana, but the licence had expired. The West Shore RCMP would like anyone who suspects a marijuana grow-op in their neighbourhood to call the detachment at 250474-2264.

The trick to keeping your poppy secured on your lapel is to stick the end of the pin back through the poppy. West Shore Poppy Fund Committee annual campaign starts today, Oct. 26.

“The point of the poppy drive is to raise funds for the veterans and their families,” said Norm Scott, past president of the Royal Canadian Legion Prince Edward No. 91. The funds can help veteran cover costs for medical needs or living expenses. The money has been used in the past to help cover costs such heating a home or for dentures.
