Bronze for Timko and co. Coq. player and teammates win Olympic medal By Larry Pruner THE TRI-CITY NEWS

It wasn’t gold and it wasn’t easy but the Canadian women’s soccer team — including Coquitlam’s Brittany Timko — made its mark Thursday at the London 2012 Olympics. Out-shot by a staggering 25-2 margin after 90 minutes of regulation play, and with France having struck both a goal post and the crossbar, Canada posted a thrilling 1-0 bronzemedal triumph on a Diana Matheson goal against the run of the play. Matheson fired the ball into a gaping net after the ball deflected off an opposition defender and on to her boot nearly two minutes into stoppage time. The result came after Canada had dropped a heart-breaking 4-3 semifinal defeat in overtime to the U.S. in a game

Police seek driver in hit-and-run accident that injured cyclist By Gary McKenna THE TRI-CITY NEWS

Port Moody Police Department is searching for the driver of a white flatbed truck who struck a cyclist last

week and took off before officers arrived. The victim, whose name was not released, is recovering with a broken leg as a result of the July 31 collision but police said they want to

talk with the driver of the truck. The cyclist was travelling west on Clarke Street, turning north on a green light onto Moody Street, when he was struck by the vehi-

cle, police said. Any witnesses are asked to call the Po r t M o o dy Po l i c e Department at 604-4613456. The last week has been a dangerous time

for cyclists in the TriCities. Last Friday, a 13-yearold boy died after being struck by a car the day before while riding his bike along Schoolhouse Street near Lucille Star

Drive. He was taken to hospital, where he died of a severe brain injury. Earlier last week, another cyclist was struck along David Avenue between Lansdowne and Noons Creek. In that

situation police believe that the setting sun may have blinded the driver of a Honda Civic, who struck the cyclist. The victim remains in hospital in critical condition. gmckenna@tricitynews.com
